About our temples, god, spiritual beliefs ....

Krishnamma's recent posting about " arai kaasu amman" helped me post this message. There are many stories behind our religion, the god we worship, idols and related spiritual matters. Why dont we share some interesting messages of them?

To begin i'll start with the short story behind the formation of Mammiyoor temple. Many might have heard abt this temple, still let this be a news for the unknown.

This mammiyoor temple is in kerala, just few mins walk from Guruvayoor temple. A belief is there that our holy pilgrimage to guruvayoor completes only when we visit this mammiyoor temple, which is very close to it.

The main deity are Lord shiva and parvati. And ofcourse other idols are also there and it resembles a tamilnadu kind of temple situated in kerala.

We all know that the idol in guruvayoor (guruvayoorappan) was given by Lord Maha Vishnu himself. Lord Vishnu asked the god of vayu (wind) and the guru of the devas to install the idol in south, namely called guruvayoor. And at that time Lord Shiva and parvati also visited. Since they had no space they moved to some distance, which is called as "mammiyoor".
