Suggestions needed to choose movers - LA to NJ

Employers, depending on the position and situation, often pay for the move but you will need to pay income tax on that. The cost to use movers from CA to NJ will be many thousands. If you have to pay yourself, you will need to be doing a lot of calling regarding prices. Since it's going to be thousands, sometimes you can cut a deal with your employer that they will just pay the moving expense and you can just ship your boxes by freight or ups and sell off or otherwise dump your furniture and buy all new at the new location. You will have to figure out what works best for you.

 

Am not sure if you have moved already. But here is a checklist that could help anyone looking for this info. We moved atleast 5 times, and so moving got finetuned each time



Household Movers: Finalize atleast a month before moved. United Van Lines is expensive but very good. Always ask for "NOT to exceed Frozen quote" if relocation expenses are paid by employers

Car Movers : Dependable Auto Shippers - The only shipper whom we found to promise a date, and give money back to cover rental car, if they can not meet the deadline. This particular service comes at an extra fee.

Gas Service, Electricity, Internet, Cable - To be turned off / cancelled / suspended. Call and give stop date and make note of request #, representative name, & any additional details,

(Setup box/ Router/Modem - may need to be returned)​

USPS : Mail forward from date of journey to new address (or friend's place or postbox)

DMV - Address Change to be initiated (needed if u are waiting for any docs)

Bank & Credit Cards : Address change


Hospital Records Release forms - Atleast 2 weeks in advance, so that hospitals have enough time to collate and share records.

Library card - ideally has to be surrendered

Household Stuff
1. Stop / limit buying items that needs to be refridgerator for atleast 1 month
2. Sell / donate / discard stuff not needed anymore
3. Grocery - do not accumulate more

To Pack
1. Some clothes for usage till ur stuff reaches you. It could vary from 2 days to 6 weeks
2. Few cooking vessels that can be taken with u in flight/car, if you are not planning to buy again.
3. Medicines & prescriptions

After moving - address change in all below

Driver's license
bank accounts & credit cards
car registration,
car title
car insurance change
new library card

note the nearest ER
