hi Ramya...

nice u posted it here, last week i read this and i was feeling pity about bush..no sense what he is saying... India is capable to feed its citizen byt growing in their own country...he is making nuisance statements that due to raise in demands of middle class indians global food price has been effected.... Actually we indians must say due to demand of indian food all over the world it has effected our food prices..... We can see clearly since last two three there has been inflation which is almost ruining salaried people. Globally economy is effected so much and increase in steel and metal prices has effected a lot and there is contribution of hike in petroleum product charges..
Bush is totally unaware that still in india most of the people are involved in agriculture and india dont import food from other countries.. In fact india is growing foreign vegetable too in our own country where the climate is suitable.. We can agree few eatables are imported like cheese, wine few fruits and few rarely available veggies..his statement is totally shows his poor knowledge about India and its economy.... only debts from WB doesnt shows the countries financial condition.poor men

Angry Re: Bush blames india and china for global food shortage

These statements of Bush will go down in the annals of "Bushism" .... incredible audacity...
Thank you for bringing this issue to my notice. I read many more articles on this issue in various Indian and world newspapers. I read the CNN everyday (among other newspapers) and there is no reference to Bush and Rice's remarks.

Living in the US Indians are hurt by the rise in prices or rice and wheat. In many stores there is no rice stock....

But this is the limit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
India is self-sufficient... and exports food!!!
India is much smaller than USA in size and has a huge population and still manages to provide grains to its population and for export to the world.

In America farmers are subsidized for NOT farming their land!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And now bio-fuels.... corn is a major food here but it is used for cars!!!

I no longer drive my SUV as we can not afford to fill it with gas (even though it is a mini SUV and gives better gas mileage than other cars). I drive my husband 10-year old Manual Acura...30 mpg is definitely not bad.

Some time back Bush blamed India and China for increased oil prices and pollution.
And now food.

What next does the world have to sacrifice and endure to support the AMERICAN WAY of LIFE....

But whats most astonishing is the Indian Prime Minister's silence on this unjust "accusation".

Thanx padma and gayathri for u'r posts..

Bush's stmt proves again that he has zero knowledge of economics and ofcourse his heartburns on india developing in all fields..

Figures released by the US Department of Agriculture for 2007 say each Indian eats only 178 kg of grain in a year, while a US citizen consumes 1,046 kg. Likewise, milk consumption per person per year is 36 kg in India, while in the United States is 78 kg. While each American consumes 45.5 kg poultry meat per year, an Indian takes in only 1.9 kg. Besides, while the US per capita grain consumption rose from 946 kg in 2003 to 1,046 kg in 2007, India’s per capita consumption remained static during this period.

Guess he wud never get to read the statistics b4 giving out any stupid remarks..

The saddening part is the silence of our PM..But atleast other politaical parties joined together to ridicule bush's stmt..

Cheers
RAmya

Headline-

Statement of Bush-
"There are 350 million people in India who are classified as middle class. That's bigger than America. Their middle class is larger than our entire population," said Bush last week. "And when you start getting wealth, you start demanding better nutrition and better food. And so demand is high, and that causes the price to go up."

I think he is jealous of our economic growth. He says whatever he wants to say.He does whatever he wants to do.Wait for some more days.

One can't blame like this.People should feel happy and give support that a developing country trying so hard to grow.

I guess there should be appropiate government come and balace the economy of America.
