College visits during Summer Vacation

We are planning to visit colleges in the summer for my son who will be in 12th next year. - I really don't see what's the need.
Any advice from IL's who have been their and done that will be greatly appreciated.

My son is going to be a senior this fall as well. We are planning to visit some east coast colleges in June. I have called some colleges. I understand there is no need to notify them in advance, just show up at the times they are offering these tours. Some colleges even offer these tours and some on certain days only.It is possible to get one on one session to ask speific questions.I understand we may not be able to observe classes during summer.

Thank you for your response. We are planning to visit some schools in the north east too.
My main conern is My son has like 20 colleges on his list. How to shorten it.
I was thinking of meeting with his high school college counselor. Did you do that?
Right now, he ( or maybe me ) ia all tensed about his SAT exam.

we are having the same issue too. He too is busy with AP tests in between the SAT and ACT. Plus he has two other programs in June. After several planning and re-planning we have split the trips in two-- one to Northeast and one to Chicago area later in the summer.The second one is optional

My daughter is a rising senior. Nice to know that you both have planned for college visits. I am yet to plan. BTW, how did your kids do their AP exams? My girl has two more AP's tomorrow and day after. Hope she does well. All the best to her and also to your sons.

My son had two AP's last week-Spanish and Math. He was a little worried about Spanish , but it wasn't as hard as he thought. This week he has two-Chem and English. All the Best to your daughter and our sons.

My daughter is also writing AP-Chem tomorrow and APLAC the next day.
How did your son do the Calculus exam (BC or AB)? My girl took AB and she felt that multiple choice questions were easier than free response. How about your son?

Nice to know so many of us have 11th graders. My son is doing IB courses. So far he feels he has done well on his IB and AP exams. Getting ready for the finals.
Has any of yours completed SAT? Mine is taking for the second time in June.

My son took AB and said it went well. He took SAT once and scored well . He may attempt again in oct. He cannot take it in June as he has been accepted in the BOys state program in June 1st week. He has also taken SAT II and waiting for results. Since next year he will be in AP physics,he thought of taking SATII chem now itself.While at it, he took English and Math as well.

My daughter took SAT on May 3. She is again planning on taking SAT in OCT as she is going to summer college program sponsored by the state government for the students who excelled academically. She will be away from home for one and half months. I am going to miss her!
