Travel Agents vs Online/website Travel booking

    If you want to book round trip flight tickets from Chennai to USA -
    do you usually go to a travel agent in Chennai and do it? Or is it easier to go some online website and just book it directly?

    Which do you prefer and why?

    If travel agent - can you name any reputable travel agent in Chennai?

    We could do it ourselves. The advantage of we doing it is, we could keep looking at the fares and then we could book when we find it comfortable.

    Booking through travel agents may not give you that fare-comparison option. My aunt and uncle got their tickets through Akbar travels. I am not sure of their service though. Before looking for agents, read their reviews and do go for it please.

    I checked, and prices seem a bit insanse for flights from Chennai to USA (irrespective of specific destination city). Wondering what current fares people seem to hear for flights? Maybe i should post this in a different section of IL for more replies.

    If you are going through on behalf of a corporation/company then you don't have to worry about booking,for self travelling visit sites like Makemytrip.com
    there you will get lot of flight options with no of halts and duration of journey along with fares

    Choose the right fare and less travel time and book yourself :)

    I have personally checked on kayak and booked it directly on the Airlines website.

    But from friends I have heard that few agents provide negotiable rates by $100 difference.. They sometimes get good deals through the airlines and that shows up as a low far when they send us a quote..

    It is still worth it to talk to them for a quote and if it does not work out , you can say no.

    Prices are very high right now from Chennai to the US. My parents said the fares are significantly higher than what they paid two years ago at this same time. They have decided to come in September when the prices go down. I'll ask them about the agency they used.
