I know most of you guys in US know that more than the state name, its nickname is kinda popular...:)

I know that other parts of the world.. even in India we have some..


My hometown: Coimbatore: Manchester of Southern India.
NJ: Garden State.
NY: Big Apple or Empire State

Remaining States of America.

Hawaii: Aloha State
Idaho: Gem State or the Gem of Mountains
Illinois: Prairie State [ To Preserve native Illinois Prairies..]
Indiana: Hoosier State:
Iowa: Hawyeke State [ Another Indian honor]
Kansas: SunFlower State
Kentucky: Bluegrass State [no no, Bluegrass is not green, but during spring, it produces the buds thats kinda bluish and thus when you look its like a blue carpet out there and thus the name]
Louisiana: Pelican state
Maine: Pine tree State
Maryland: Old Line State [ Remembering those war troops in those early years of US of A creation]
Massachusetts: Bay State or Old Colony State:
Michigan: Great Lake or Wolverine[:shock - those natives again]State
Minnesota: North start or State of 10000 Lakes[ Actually this state has 12,000 lakes.. wow..]
Mississippi: Magnolia State
Missouri: Show me State [It notates a certain self deprecating stubbornness & devotion to simple common sense. ]
Montana: Treasure State [Mining]
Nebraska: CornHusker State["cornhusker" comes from the method of harvesting or "husking" corn by hand, which was common in Nebraska before the invention of husking machinery. ]
Nevada: Silver or Sage or SageBrush State [ what did you expect gambler state ;).. lots of Silver and sage brushes are there]
New Hampshire: Granite State [ Noted.. When I return to India, may be I can fill the container from here ;) for my kitchen]
New Mexico: Land of Enchantment[ Realllllly?]
North Carolina: Old North State
North Dakota: Peace Garden or FlickerTail or RoughRider State
Ohio: BuckEye State
Oklahoma: The sooner State [ Another native territory]
Oregon: Beaver State[ Thank Goodness I am not there, actually I am scared of them]
Pennsylvania: KeyStone State [ There are lots of caverns here.. please do visit you will be amazed]
Rhode Island: Ocean or Plantation State
South Carolina: Palmetto State
South Dakota: Mount Rushmore State[ Those 4 faces.. ]
Tennessee: Volunteer or Big Bend or Hog and hominy state or The mother of southwestern statesmen
Texas: Lone Star State
Utah: Beehive State
Vermont: Green Mountain State
Virginia: Old Dominion or Mother State
Wisconsin: Badger State
Wyoming State: Equality State[ Hats off These women were the first to vote, take place in jury or even took state offices.. WOW]

Arizona: Grand Canyon or Copper State
Arkansas: NAtural State
Colorado: Centennial State or Colorful Colorado
Connecticut: Constitution State [ Thanks Mohana]
West Virginia: Mountain or Pan Handle State[ Thanks Sri]
Delaware: First [first few states to form after USA creation] or Diamond [no diamonds there, just a name given for its importance in the revolutionary war]or Blue Hen [again importance in war] or Small Wonder State [such a small state with high value and importance]

Georgia: Peach State[ please ILs there eat for me too.. I love this fruit]
California: Golden State[Thanks Krithika.. Not just because of the discovery of Gold in SFO.. but also because of the cute golden poppies]
