Default Re: Bottled water/Filter water/Tap water- What do you use?

Hi Krithika,

Does this filter with indicator look like our steel water filters back home -- 2 dabba like one above other ? Or is it something like Aquaguard which you fit beside the tap itself ?

Here I'm getting only Brita plastic jug & Brita small filters [ look like kulfi moulds] which you attach directly to tap --- no indicator or anything is there on them .
Where did you purchase yours from ? This weekend am planning to go to Walmart [ need to take metro for that -- pretty far from my place ] so want to know any model no./ cost etc.

Right now am using only tap water for cooking / drinking also 'cos I've noticed that if I boil this water & keep for drinking, can smell something rusty -- so stopped boiling. But here overall people don't use any filter or anything but I've decided to fix one. Hence need the info.

Bye.

Hi Grace,

These filters are PUR WATER FILTERS. It comes in plastic pitchers..one cup inside the pitcher to fill the tap water that is to be filtered..it has a hole..through which we insert filter. Initially when we buy, the pack comes along with the pitcher and the filter..the coast is about $20.

On the lid is a button and a light indicator. As soon as we get the pack, the new filter needs to soaked in cold tap water for 15mts. These directions are given clearly in the manual too. After 15mts we need to wash it under running tap water for a few seconds and install it in the upper part of the pitcher cup.

Then we need to press the button on the lid for about 5 seconds and it starts glowing green. This means the filter is good and ready to use...as we start using it for about a month or so...it will change to orange..which indicates that we need to change the filter soon..then after a few days..it will turn to red...this means we need to change the filter immediately.

Approximately, it is best to change the filter every 2 months...but sooner if the usage of water is more. The indicator may change color sooner if the consumption is more.

Also, it is good to get 2 pitchers if you are going to use for drinking & cooking. since bigger dispensers/pitchers were not available in PUR model...i also got a bigger BRITA model . So apart from the 2 PUR pitcher filters , i have this bigger BRITA dispenser too.

But the BRITA models do not come with indicators...we need to use the stickers provided and make a note of the month and date we installed the new filter and change it regularly (again approx in 2 months ) PUR filters also come with these calendar stickers.

Please be careful to look for regular pitchers that have no flavors... because they come with flavors too..like strawberry etc...!

hope this helps...good luck with your shopping !

Cheers
Krithika (Jithiks)
