Hi Vaidehi,

Thanks for sharing what you use @ home.

I agree with what you said about the white patch. In fact , in many areas of USA , this is the case. Though respective counties proclaim that their water is clean and good enough to drink directly, these kind of white patches...and sometimes even red stains....makes us skeptical.

What if these stains/patches also form inside our body??!! Even the bottom of the pressure cookers form a white patch.

So when I bought new cookers, ( fearing this white patch) I am using only the filtered water for everything..drinking,cooking and even filling the cooker outside the vessels!

Initially, we used to buy bottled water & cans for drinking & cooking. But when we work out the cost...it is way too high every month compared to buying filters with pitchers.

We tried fitting in the filter to the kitchen faucet...it didnt work...so now we are using PUR WATER FILTERS IN PITCHERS. And since I wanted the bigger PITCHER/DISPENSER too...and this was not available in PUR...we got BRITA FILTER WITH BIGGER SIZE PITCHER/DISPENSER.

In case of PUR...it has a glow light which we can set up before the first use of the filter...and it glows green...we need to change the filter once it glows red. All the instructions are given in its manual too.

In case of BRITA, it does not have this glow ligt...but they provide stickers with the name of months and we can stick on the date we installed the new filter. The PUR filters also have these stickers that are very handy.

Approximately , all these filters need to be changed every 2-3 months depending upon our usage. If there is more usage...probably in about 1 and half months.

Any more info you need....let me know....

Cheers

Specially the water over here in Texas is so hard that, its leaves a white Patch when u boil or heat it. Also it tastes salty and not at all suitable for drinking. But i came to know that many people use only Tap water here for Drinking.

Right now we are planning to buy a filter, but totally confused abt the brands.. Can anyone share some light on the filters?????????

Cheers

Hi prr,

Thanks! Glad you like this topic and sharing your info too!

Buying filters with pitchers is a better option when compared to buying canned/bottled water in terms of cost.

Cheers

Hi subhasr

You are right on about the smell. But some people get used to it and people like us dont!

So you and your husband use different filters?!

Do you use for drinking & cooking too?

Cheers

We use Brita water filter for both drinking and cooking water. It doesn't taste hard or salty. It tastes like mineral water.

And we buy bottle water for trips.

You are most welcome Vaidehi!

The taste is different from that of tap water & bottled/canned water. But it is good...you need to get used to this taste...i guess !

And no, it is not salty or hard..

Cheers

I use Bottle water only for drinking....and for cooking normal tap water....anyway we will be boiling the water at higher temperature when we cook know ?!!! moreover we use different masalas/podis which defeat the normal smell of the tap water and gives good smell after cooking....ha ha ha !!!
