Default unforgettable incident in foreign country

hi all

i wud like to start a thread for NRI's who had experienced an unforgettable incident in a new country. let me start with mine.

this happened abt 7 years ago when i first came to US it was my very first day in US actually happended at the Airport. we landed at SFO after a long journey, as my dh was telling me abt the country and how things will be different here and everrything, i was verry tired of the long journey, new country , thinking of my mom, i was like screaming inside . after immigration we came out and dh's cousin came to the airport to pick us up, since m dh was handling all luggages, he gave me small pouch where our passports were, i was supposed to take care of it, after all the luggages were boarded, my dh asked me to leave the cart there , me being thinnking abt all things, left the cart there and forgot to take the pocuh. after a 45 mins drive we reached his cousin's place, took bath , ate and was sitting chating, after almost 4 to 5 hours my dh asked me the pouch then only we came to know that we lost our passports in the airport in the cart . . we rushed back to airport and there was no cart with pouch, we rushed to lost and found and told them about the pouch, they asked the colour, i couldn't even remember the colour , i was like literally crying then my dh told them the colour and things inside it, after they checked everything they gave it to us. and thank god the passports were there. after that incident my dh never let me hold our passports, even i were to travel alone, he keeps on telling me to keep it safe. it was really scary even now to think abt it.............

Hi,

Nice thread - I too had a similar experience. I came alone here from India for the first time after marriage as my hubby had to come back a few weeks earlier. He told me not to worry and he would come to the airport to pick me up and also described the arrival lounge and how he would be waiting there (this was pre 9/11 days). Well, I landed in SFO and everything was as he had described but no hubby at the airport! I finished immigration and came out and everyone had relatives waiting for them and no one for me. I was almost in tears - tired after a long journey, with heavy suitcases and did not know what to do. I did not even have quarters to make a phone call! Finally he turned up - turns out he was waiting at the new SFO airport (international terminal) which had opened just that day and my flight had landed at the domestic terminal. Anyway he finally found me and we got home at 10 at night! that was an unforgettable incident for me.

Dear Padija and Mythraeyi,

Both of yours were unforgettable experiences, for sure. Padija, you were saved from a great trouble.

Mine was like of Mythraeyi's. But, it was my second trip to US. I was not so tensed. Because, I know DH would be always a little bit late. Was a bit uncomfortable, to be in the new atmosphere. He saved my day, after making me wait for just 30 minutes.

Not thrilling, right? Just wanted to share my experience. Probably, if he was late by hours then.

Hi friends,

Well.......here goes my experience as an NRI:

When we were in Switzerland for a couple of years, one day me and my hubby went shopping with our 3yr old son. As we were getting late to catch the local train, we were almost running in the railway station, me pushing the stroller of my kid. My hubby with his looooooooong leaps was going fast he scolded me for being slow. I said i cannot run fast with the stroller. In a fraction of a sc, he took the stroller from me with an intention to help me ,ofcourse and got into the train and then ..........by the time i got into the train..........alas!!!!! the doors got closed and train left!!!!!!! I was left alone stranded with no money and no ticket but with tears in my eyes. I stood there alone remembering the scene from Dil chahta hai!!
My hubby then waved out at me to wait there itself and he wud come back. It took almost 1hour for him to get down at the next stop and again take a train in the opposite direction to reach me.
Sometimes, i feel a cell phone wud save us from many such bitter incidents...
thats from me on this.....
