Hi All, I am travelling to India shortly and would like to take few electronic or small home appliances to my parents and relatives at home. What troubles me now is the voltage differences between India and US. The electronic appliances available here are mostly made to handle 120V, where as in India its 230V. Are there any electronics available here which can handle both the voltages? I've heard few like laptops, electric razors and hair dryers will work in india too.. ANy idea about coffee grinders or other small appliances or electronic items?? All suggestions are welcome!!!

Has anyone bought cordless phone sets from here which will work in India too? I find many handsets with attractive features, but they work only in 120V. Any ideas?

I took a cordless phone from here worth $60 and my parents used a step down transformer and adopter to use the phone but still after 2 months of usage it got burnt. So after that I never took any electronics from here to India. Don't know what others do

Cordless phones wil work here but after one year they of no use. In India v r gtd many more models n cheaper rates too. So my suggestion is it is not advisable. Foreign products, here the repair problem also there. Even I have body messenger and pillow (battery operator). They r good n wil run with AA battery so no problem n not much weight. I think this info wil help u out. ![]() M S lakshmi |

I have bought 220v appliances from here to take to India - especially spice grinders like we get here. If you live in larger cities like NY, LA, there are many Indian stores that carry such appliances. I recently found that there are many online places which deal with 220 volts on many items that we get here - like hair straighteners, spice grinders, etc. The website that I found is "dual electronics". Try googling 220v appliances - there are few that comes up. I would not recommend buying here and using the step up - the appliances usually dont work very well.

Thank you all for sharing your ideas.. I badly wish if both the places had the same voltage options!! I think I'll have to keep aside the hopes of buying some electronics from here.. If the appliances won't work proper for longer even when using with a converter, its of no use carrying it from here.. I'm disappointed The site dualeletronics.com has many options. Thankyou Shobana. Has anyone purchased from this site? Is it trustworthy? Seems to be a bit expensive too/..
