Hi all I'm swarnalatha, a housewife from Visakhapatnam. I have two kids - 3 and half yrs old son and 1 yr old daughter. Next month my husband is coming from US (Worcester, MA) and we are going there. I'm a little bit confused about the things to be carried there (like toys, vessels, kids clothes, pickles, etc) and about the initial arrangements to be taken careof. I'm a bit worried also since i'm with two kids. I need your valuable suggestions regarding this. Hope you have understood my problem. Waiting for your suggestions.... bye swarna

Dear Swarnalatha, I can understand your dilemma. But take heart, you have come to the right place for advice. There are many here who have recently made the move and will surely help you out with their experiences. I feel that there are two important things you need to bring here from India. One is your blender mixer machine for the kitchen, like Preethi or any other similar one. It seems they are available all over India easily and are made especially for usage in the US. The second item is your pressure cooker. If you are in the habit of using your p cooker, then do bring it with you. I note that your main concern is about your children and their needs. If your kids are used to any special food that is only available in India, then do bring that with you. You can carry as much as you need for the initial stages till they get used to foods here. Almost everything is available for kids here, the choice is plenty. But I feel other young mothers in the forum are better equipped to advice you on this matter. Best of luck. L, Kamla

Hi Swarna, You have come to the right place to find our more about the the things you need to bring. As kamala said you defintitley need Mixie, table top grinder, and pressure cooker. You also need podis and spices if you use home made one. Ofcourse you get everything here these days. Regarding your kids you can bring few of their fav toys. If they have any fav food bring a couple mths supply of that like, boost or horlicks or bournvita. We get that here too. But since you get refill packs in India it is cheaper to get them in India and stock for few mths. You can also get their regular medicines that they take for fever and cold and other things just in case, till they get used to this place and till you find a pediatrician. Jothi.
