| Hey All, I am also pissed off with this. There are some indian stores which have some stock of Sujata & Kohinoor atta. Both are good as compared to these Sher, golden temple etc.Sher Atta is very bad. And because of this ban problem, prices of Atta has increased tremendously.Today I bought Kohinoor Atta 20Lb for $17.00....but no choice.Last week I bought Sher....didnt like it at all....will have to throw it. |

| It's not just the ban, prices of wheat are going up. Bread, pizza etc is going to start costing a lot more. now there is also a ban on curry leaves - just cannot get fresh ones anywhere and there is no reasonable substitute. I am using curry leaf powder - it is ok but does not add as much flavour as the fresh leaves.

| Hi IL, I am also in search of a good atta for chapathis. I used to love SUJATHA brand but now they are not in stock. Tried the new SHAKTHI brand, it was horrible! It is wheat and soya flour mixed together. Made a few chapathis, not good, so returned it. Luckily the indian stores refunded the money. Nowadays I use the GOLDEN TEMPLE (half heartedly) since i know it contains Maida and not whole wheat. Tried Laxmi brand but becomes hard after some time. Whole foods is very far away from our residence and not possible to go often. Can somebody suggest some good attas? My children and husband dont like the smell of the tortillas! Thanks Jithiks(Krithika) |

| Hi ladies, All these brands have Durum Atta flour and whole wheat atta flour..One has to specifically ask for that.whole wheat. Meanwhile we need to know, if there is any American substitute. Like rice, Atta Price also increased, partly because the exports from India have reduced and the Dollar slide. I am also looking for substitutes to ghee. What ghee do you all use. Is it possible that we buy American White butter and melt. Has anyone tried it ??? I use Amul ghee as of now. The small tin costs $7 here in Texas.

| I buy unsalted butter from costco and use that for making ghee.It turns out really well.I did not like the ghee that we get in indian stores here. I use 1 block of butter (4 small sticks) at one time to make butter. It gives me ghee 3/4 in horlicks bottle.I use this max 2 weeks.Store the remaining butter in freezer for better freshness. As and when ghee is over i make it fresh. |
