Default Networking business.... disadvtg!

Hi all,

We have been hounded by this word "networking" and for people like us who are very new to US are troubled a lot Spl by Desi's here who are into this business.

We are in US for the last two months, and very new to this culture and surrounding here. We do want to have friends so that we can socialise and be with like minded people. The other day i had been to Wal-Mart and while we were doing our shopping, there came a guju couple who vwere very friendly and spoke to us very nicely. and in turn they took our phone number and contact details. since then it has been a pain on our neck saying no to them. Everytime they call us its like a big question how to avoid them. They brainwash us to such a n extent that there is no escape.

i have met nearly 4- 5 desis who try to be very friendly with us and in end we get to know that they want something from us in return. Our problem is we r not able to be strict to this people and every other time me or my husband have to find ways out to avoid such people. Coz of which we are little skeptical abt making friends here.

How do u react to people like this? Pls advice.

cheers

Hi,

It is best to avoid such people. Never give your phone no to people you don't know. Such people haunt the aisles of kmart, walmart etc just to catch unsuspecting people. We had the same problem when we first came here. It is best to make friends in your apartment complex, local temple etc. If you are approached again, just say that you are not interested.

Hi Vaidehi,

Get caller id and avoid picking up there calls.

Till such time, if those people call you, then say that you are busy and it is not a good time for you.

Don't get taken in by people in stores or malls who approach you too quickly and straight away ask for your cell number. That's a BIG warning sign...

How's your son doing btw? I know its cold up north...hope he's better...

love,
Aarushi

Good to hear that you escaped from the cold up north! Just hearing about all the snow storms and avalanches and icy winds makes my teeth chatter...

Glad to know that Tarun is doing well..:)

Yeah, all these are part of the growing up (?) process here in the US.. Hope you are having a good time otherwise adjusting to the new place...did you make any friends? As others suggested, look for people in your apartment complex..that would be a good start...

Take care,
Aarushi
