Hi Subha,
Do not worry! This always happens.
I don't understand why they rejected your W-7.
Call IRS toll free number-- 1-800-829-1040 immediately and they will guide you.

When you file 1040 electronically, they don't need a signature. They need your PIN. If one does not have a PIN,(as far as I know) a form must be filled with your signature on it.
Did you buy H&R's peace of mind plan while filing tax returns? If yes, it is H&R's responsibility to get it all done. Even if you did not buy the peace of mind plan, it is their duty to guide you properly. Visit the H&R personally and talk to the representative. Take care!

best,

Subha - sorry for the delay in responding - I was on vacation - Sindhuja has correctly responded to your question. Did you e-file or paper-file your return? If you paper-filed your return, you will have to sign the return regardless of whether you had income or not. H&R Block should give you guidance on this.

Signatures must be original and located beneath the jurat (Perjury statement). If the return filing status is Married filing jointly, both spouses must sign. If a spouse cannot sign the return, see Publication 501, Exemtion, Standard Deduction and Filing Information, at our website Internal Revenue Service under More Forms and Publications for additional information."

We filed our returns with H&R Block....and we asked the representative of H&R Block when we fillled the form and he said I dont need to sign the form 1040 as I dont have any Income for the year 2007. (Though file the returns jointly and moreover I dont even have the SSN).

Pl carify whether I need to sign the form 1040 or not? We are so confused....That representative is not at all responding now. We couldn't contact him through phone. Pl help !!!!
