Welcome to USA. How long are you planning to stay in Chicago? What do you want to grind in mixie/blender? You can get a nice blender for 30 dollars. It grinds chutney. For dry masala/wet masala, you can get small grinder at the indian store.

    Have a safe trip.

You get a blender in US named Magic Bullet. Many of my friends use that instead of the Indian mixie. It is very powerful and it can be used to grind chutneys, dry and wet masala (in small quantities though). You can use that if you don't want to lug a mixie from India.

as others suggested you can either get a blender here in US or else... buy an indian mixi here online... costs 150$ in chennaiimports or hotdishes.net

    hi sudha,

since u will be here for a long time try to bring the mixie from India. u can always buy the 220 v which is cheaper than the 110 v and then come here and get the convertor which costs 25 $. this way u can really save. if u r coming to chicago, u will get the convertor in devon ave.

don't forget to take the extra bush and other stuff.

    Hi,
If you need dosa/Idly batter, then you might need either an Indian grinder or an Indian mixie. If you don't have the habit of eating dosa/Idly every week, then you need not have both of these.

Indian stores at your local neighborhood should have one. You can avoid carrying that extra item.
