Guys.. guys.. guys....

lets take a step back ok?

questions?

(1) Now, did this happen before the immigration or after? - During the immigration.

First red flag.. when a security says something please follow that. After 9/11 anything can happen and people are vigilant is all different way possible.. did you see the latest Afghan movie? they can initiate a bomb by just few calls from the cell fone.. since its international airport.. it need not be CDMA concept as in USA and thus since SIMCARD can be easily felt untraceable..

So, whatever it is.. please OBEY.. its for you OWN GOOD.

If hsi friend has come to pickup.. do you think he wont wait for another 30 mins or so.. and run away? If he has come to airport all the way.. wont he wait??

Why not call him once you immigration is done... Remember just because you have your visa doesnt mean you have entry to USA.. Port authority has every right to deny it. So when you are in immigration give due respect to what is expected of you and follow that accordingly.. Rules are rules and they are for your and this country;s good.

Hi All,

I would like to share the experience I had when I first landed in the US (George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston).

There was a very long queue at the immigration counter, and during my wait itself a customs officer came around checking the passports - a man standing ahead of me was asked how long he would be staying in the US. He replied, around 3 days. So the officer questioned, 'Isn't it too short a time to stay, when you have travelled from so far away?'..Anyway, that was just a rhetorical question, the officer moved on to others after that.

But what happened to me was this - at the counter, they were unable to read my fingerprints, even after trying thrice. Hence, they directed me to the questioning room (I don't remember its exact name), where my passport was put into a sealed file and I was asked to wait along with several others, all foreign citizens (notably from South America & the Middle East), till my name was called.
There were people who got calls on their cell phones, and when they asked if they could answer them, the officers denied their requests.
Finally, my name was called, and they wanted to know my country of origin, why I was directed to that room, and whether I am travelling alone or if someone is accompanying me (?) - and then they pointed to a child who was wandering around, as if to suggest that I am smuggling a child into this country!

Anyway, nothing happened, and they let me go right after taking my fingerprints and iris scans. But that experience was not a very walm welcome!!

Regards,
Sowmya
