Servants police verification

Hi All,
This is the question to all the ILs. How many of us do follow the servant verification process (police verfication of the household help) be it a maid, cook, driver or anyone else.
In delhi there has been so many crimes and the domestic helpers were behind all of them. Are the ladies who live alone in the house whole day aware of such a process? How much are they aware of their own and their family's safety?
How much do you know about the maid/cook/driver that you have in your house?
Do you know what does it involve in a police verification procedure?
Any ideas / views ?
