Default Best Retirement Gift for Dad

Dear ILs,
After a successful completion of 36 years of service in Govt, my father is getting retired by this month end.
Its a pleasure to facilitate my dad infront of all his collegues, students
So, request you all to provide valuable inputs for a better retirement gift which he can remember forever.

Post retirement, he may have more time and he may like to keep himself up to date. I think the best gift could be a Lap top with BSNL net connection, if he does not already owns one.

i agree laptop is a good choice ...or u can get him yearly subscriptions of some of his fav magazines...

buying ur parents a packages trip for some 20-25 days is also an option worth considering

when my dad retired...my elder sisters had gone to pick him up to his office where office folks were celebrating his last day....and at home we had arranged to get a second garland ceremony for mom and dad...where they garlanded each other again for the next phase of their life

Priya, for my dad's retirement... me n my hubby(i dunt have a brother) made sure to pick him up from work where his collegues threw a farewell party. My dad was feeling very secured n proud (esp because my hubby came)to board our car & come back home... not feeling lonely.

At home, mom prepared good food an we had a blast for him..made him wear garlands & we were pulling legs at each other &keeping him utmost happy. Now he engages himself very well with the internet.

so I think more than any gift...the secured feeling is JMO.

Priya,

My mom retired this June. You know what we did, we all as a family went to her farewells, she works for BSNL so there was one by her GM's office and the other by local office. (We indeed made our vacation for this event). There was nothing she wanted from us but a feeling of pride, when she retires that we all are there for her.

When she was dropped off home by colleagues (infact me, my dad and bro were there with her) my uncle (mom's brother), sisters, my cousins, my little one all gathered infront of our home and burst crackers, flower pot etc to welcome her back home. We have captured all of these and her farewell speech as a good memory of her retirement. Planning to do something like this for my father's retirement also, next year.

You can plan out a surprise party with your entire family of relatives and some of his very good friends and family. This will be a memorable gift for him If he's interested in photography, then a good SLR or camcorder will make it complete.

-Uma

You can gift him a tour package where he can spend time peacefully.
