Question If malls can, why can't the government?

Roaming around a posh mall, I can't help but notice the sparkling floors, speckless windows and beautiful interiors, disabled friendly shops and ... But it made me wonder what would have happened if the same mall was run by a government agency...

Well first of all, it would be totally elderly and disabled friendly. The toilets and floors would have been dirty as hell....

This makes me wonder, why can't our government manage things as good as these malls?

$$$$ is the reason.

Govt has lot other important things to budget the money to (..... supposedly) while for these privately owned, that's their bread and butter !!!!!

Nandhu, agree $$$$$ is the main reason...
but with the given budget, Govt can do better than what they do right now...i dont complain govt for everything...its about the people who manages those things..

Akriti a well observed thought, malls are now a favorite hangout among the youth and if it was managed by government then I don’t think nobody would even think of spending 5minutes in the mall let alone an entire day just hanging out with friends. One reason for this might be, if it’s a government establishment most of us have the mentality it should be either provided for free or for a lesser cost but we don’t mind paying for a private one. The pathetic condition of bus stations, railway stations etc itself are other examples. It would be better to privatize these and then may be the private company can deduct a small fund from each traveler for maintenance (say Rs.20 or so). To blame government alone is like blaming other’s for our mistake too. Most of us don’t mind throwing the empty can of water or tea cup on the tracks or road sides even if a “Use Me” bin is present just 1metre ahead of us. None of us really cares, do we? So not only the government has to change each of us have to change and help government to make India a better place, a cleaner place.
