Insensitivity towards Mental Patients

I don't know when will Indian society understand that having a mental or psychological problem, does not mean that the person is mad. In fact, there is no condition as "being mad". If somebody is acting in a strange manner, then it must be a medical reason behind it.

But our society treats people with depression or other problems like they are doing this deliberately. Why nobody can understand that nobody chooses to be depressed or sad.....

This is a genuinely concerned thread .Thanx for starting it.

Even immediate families fail or wish not to realise their problems.

And medical help is given only when things become too bad because

there is a stigma attached to mental ailments in our society.

Sad indeed.
