Hi Huma,

Pronunciation is no problem for me since no one in my home can tell the difference . Seriously...I try to watch some non profit public channels that broadcast programs from all over the world and listen to their accents while getting the gist of the program from the subtitles.

As for Hindi I try to spell the words as they sound(ex. mayray for mere) so that most probably you would be saying them loud as they should be.

Khaanaa Kaya Kyaa? este cu tu as mange
OR
Khaaliya kyaa

Khaanaa Kana hai ? = do you want to eat ?

zabardast khaana kaya = have eaten a wonderful meal

How do I say " good night my love??" (you can say "good night mayray preetam")

we have perfected hinglish and may be with your help can start on hinch??

Hi Huma and Blondie,

GR8 going..
I always wanted to excel in speaking Hindi..
I learnt hindi when i was in my 5th std..but half way through, i left the hindi class since i had to change school and no time for my classes..from then on its has been unfulfilled dream of excelling the language..
phir mein hindi thoda thoda maalum hai.. (is it correct Blondie ?..)

I hope there might be many more ILites here who would like to learn HIndi..so the way u share the language is great and we would appreciate if u could keep going on this..

Regards,
MAHA

Hi Blondie,

Ur way of explaining the language makes me feel confident of learning it and students(me !) of great teachers ( you) always come up with doubts as a constant process of teaching and learning...so, now I have some doubts to be clarified..
like, whats the diff. between

samaj liya
samaj gayi
samaj gaya

then some meaning for these lines..

chupke chupke chori chori
thumse pyari
sundar naari

bye until i come with new doubts,

Hi Huma and Maha,

Huma you can say "Mu-jay pyas la-gi hai, Ek glass pani cha-he-yay" it trans lates as ' I feel thirsty , may I have a glass of water'

Mujhe(here correct spelling) = me, i am

pyas = thirst

Lagi hai = feel

Ek = one

pani = water

chahiye (correct spelling) = would like to have

Shubh laabh Huma......Good luck

to night i am going to say jet aime mon bebe ...bonne nuit mon amor to my son (i love you my baby, good night my love ??) Please correct me if the order is wrong.

Maha,
you mean "Mujhe thoda sa hindi malum hain" (I know a little hindi)

samaj gaya kya = used in the context of "have you understood" (you is generic for both genders)

woh samaj gayi = she understood (denoting feminine gender)

woh samaj gaya = He understood (denoting masculine gender)

main samaj liya = I understood (used by both genders)

I am not very proficient in Hindi, there might be other correct interpretations. One way to get the most mileage is to hinglify (hindi with liberal dosage of english) and use often.

chupke chupke chori chori = quietly and stealthily
thumse pyari = more loving than you (more beautiful than you??)
sundar nari = beautiful lady

Pushpa

Hi Huma,

Good Morning Sir = Good Morning Sir-jee (hinglish )

Good Morning madam = Good morning madam-jee

Good Morning Sir = Shubh-o-da-yee (here 'da' is pronounced like 'the') gurujee.....pure hindi

Thank You = Dhan-ya-vaad

Please = Krupayaa (Please come here = krupya yahaa aa-yee-yay)

Yes = 'jee ha' OR 'Ha'

No = 'Nahi' OR 'Na'

say Yes or No = kaho Haa ya Naa

now how do I say 'Good Luck, Huma' in french??

Shubh Laabh Huma
