Exclamation TV serials - are they spoiling the society?

Living in US now, I get to see only few Indian channels. I have subscribed to couple of Tamil channels and an English news channel. I often see the Tamil channel on the weekends and sometimes during the week in the evening.

I have seen few serials in the evenings for several weeks and I am flabbergasted by the immorality shown those serials. Every single serial I have seen so far have characters where someone have two wives or a wife and an extra marital affair or a woman have an extra marital affair with her former boyfriend or husband having an affair with his wife’s sister, etc. There is one serial has gone too much to show wife is having an affair with her husband’s brother. On top of that, it is always the mother-in-law who is the villain and sometimes will go to the extent of conspiring with rowdies to kill others.

There is a limit to this and I believe the story tellers and the TV channel should be held accountable. Of course they are going to say “we show such serials because people watch it”! This is the argument movie directors and producers are having in support of some lousy movies. I strongly believe people will love to see good serials and movies as long as they get to see one! In the name of entertainment what is shown in TV serials are complete nonsense and I hope it will change.

Your thoughts? Interested in having a stimulating debate.

First of all, I think you are in the wrong category .
Second, it's not only Tamil but all hindi channels are also the same. The same affairs and torturing in-laws etc. These days, they are going even worse as all they show on TV is weeping women who are tolerating all the torture silently

But I don't think these stupid shows have the power to spoil our society.

I agree with Madras, TV serials should have some values, principles and standards. The public should learn something from the serials. Not detiorate the morality of the Society in large. I believe in this age old saying :

ya,what you said is correct. Its not the issue of Tamil or Hindi serials, but even in Malayalam they are the same.I also wonder about the mental stage of people watching these ones.Even without their knowledge this will influence their thoughts, and ofcourse about the children who are sitting near their mothers watching the distorted picture of morality infront of them. These people say its business people like it..............Do we allow any social nuisance in the soceity because some people like them? They are to be banned............

Hindi serials these days are beyond stupid. They keep showing women cursing each other and crying. According to our soaps, there are only two kinds of people in the world- Extremely nice or really bad. This plants a twisted image of society in people's mind.

No they aren't. Rather, I think TV serials talk about what is really happening in society these days. If things are bad in a part of the country and a serial is showing it, then what's so bad behind that?

this is for the person who's opened this thread

c'mon, u r living in US of A...this must be a common scene to u ..not in serials but in the real society....yeah it's awkward but i don't think there is anything for u to get the flabbergasted

for all others

the world is evolving in all respects... and people want to experiment...

there are experiments in the entertainment and media industry where the creators experiment with new things to try and catch attention...

there is experimentation in real life where people do all sort of things to try something new and come out of the routine...

it's evolution which can't be explained in few lines and cannot be stopped abruptly

all u can do is not watch such things...the experiments will fail and it'll stop on its own...gradually

and if it doesn't... it tells u that society will evolve to match it with its acts...and perhaps u're a generation older now
