Default Food at way side carts and some hotels

Have you ever thought about the preparation of sweets and snacks roasted in some hotels? have you ever thought how they prepare?

I was told by a cook in a hotel, that they use to add 10 gms of glycerin with the oil when they boil, so that the volume doesn't decrease and tastes a sweetness. Further he added that since they use glycerin when boiling in one ltr oil they can make few Kgs of Mixtures, samoosas etc., so when we eat we are getting a greasy smell, and if take hotel food after some time it tastes bad, and creates digestions problem and added that we get big bellies.

I don't know how far it is true. But beleive there are chances.

R u Sure it is glycerin? The commercial name for glycerol, is glycerin, a colorless, odorless, syrupy liquid--chemically, an alcohol--obtained from fats and oils and used to retain moisture and add sweetness to foods. It also helps prevent sugar crystallization in foods like candy. Outside the world of food, glycerin is used in cosmetics, inks and certain glues.

Dear Lalitha
Its true that in some hotels they put not sunnambu but soda bicorb to cook the rice very fast. But you cannot eat more than a handful. You will feel full that is because of soda bicarb produces gas when it started digest. The rice will be in whitest white in colour.

You must have come across many sweet shops that offer to sell cheap pure ghee sweets. Please beware, they use ghee and partial animal fat to get the same effect. This was widely reported in the papers a couple of years ago but has withered off.

Yes girls, this is true. Even the caterers use soda for the rice...so when we get catering done at home for functions, we give special instructions to them not to use soda while making rice.

Gosh! I have also heard that they add many stuff to rice especially during weddings , so that after eating few handfuls junta feels stuffed - Not sure upto what percent it's true

One of my close frens dad once had restaurant and she said once he found a big snake dead in one of the big woks that they used to make fries and the head chef suggested that they'll throw away the snake and reuse the huge qty of oil in the pan. Her dad(this happened couple of days after they opened the place) insisted that they should throw away the oil. Eventually they closed down the restaurant business and todate he won't eat anything from any places other than home cooked

India doesn't have any type of food safety regulation system in place. As a result, we are all Ram Bharose (at God's mercy) whenever ordering food in a restaurant. God knows how clean or hygenic they are...
