Default French leave by maids

How do people manage when the maids absent themselves without prior permission? In olden days the next door maid will always come to help. Nowadays when the maid works in many houses this is not possible. Sometimes we dont do anything hoping the maid will turn up next day. Well , if she does not , we curse her and try to finish the work ourselves.Nowadays because of advancing age we find it stressful because it is unaccustomed work. Since the advent of washing machines ,the fear of her sudden absence had considerably come down.
I find that all the houses in USA have dishwasher and a washing sink with a with a waste food dispenser. Are these kitchen aids widely used in India for domestic purposes? What are the requirements ? Which are the companies marketing it ?As we become older it is better to depend on machines than on Men or Women.

My parents recently got a dishwasher installed in their house in India. They absolutely love it! They are no longer dependent on the maid so much and they are much happier now...The brand is BOSCH and it cost approx 27-28 K I think.

Hope this helps,
Aarushi

Dear Sir,

I know exactly what u mean because my parents in bangalore are going thru the same thing...after coming away from india we are not that dependant on the maids....i agree it is better to have machines... ...dishwashers are not very common in india i do not know why.............because we have to cook and eat everyday..if u ask me more useful than a washing machine...then the days she doesnt come just vacuum the whole house once.......

I think for good functioning of dish washer two things are essential.
1. Good soft water.
2.Uninterupted water supply.
For people in Chennai I do not know if this is possible. Otherwise you have to change the dishwaser every year because things get rusty easily in chennai when you use ground water which is high in salt and iron content.
Easier solution may be to purchase food outside when the maid does not turn up

Yes dish washer is convenient and i use IFB...never heard of Bosch.

I think its coz we have maids here that we are not used to them and start grumbling if they don't turn up for a couple of days.

It ofcourse is difficult for elderly people with failing health.

Also i have noticed that here in India unlike US we have to do washing everyday also sweeping and mopping atleast once a day...there they can afford to vacuum once a week or fortnight. Here if we don't do it for a week we will have layers of dust around the house.

Also i feel that smaller house and less clutter also helps a lot.

Roopa.

Yes Lakshmi,

You are abslutily correct. But I want to add one more thing in your list.
3. Uninterupted power ( current) supply.
Power cuts .............. what to do? if power is not there? That is why I hate India. Sorry to say this. we are talking about 2020 ... and talking about becoming like US.:bull****First let us get Uninterupted power supply, water supply and food supply for all. then can talk about those things. Even in Bangalore we are facing power cuts and phone and internet problem even we stay near the Great Electronic City.Rant

As you said we have to change all rusted parts often. As you said bought out food is better or we can get dosa dough and make idly or dosa as per your wish. Also get some curd. that is all. what do you say?

Thanks to Arushi and Roopadadia for the information. Also thanks to useful feedback from Anooch,Mindi, Lakshmi and Krishnamma. I think I have to shift my house to a place where power, good water , is available uninteruppedly. May be to Trichy, Tanjore or Tinnively .

Sorry Mr. Gopalan,

I dont want to hurt you ! I just expressed the difficult in that. We can purchase all these items with out any problem. But maintaining it or using it , will become a big problem than buying.

I can give you a small suggestion instead of shifting your house to some where in South, (hope you are in Chennai) you can go for a UPS, with good back up. That is you should be able to operate those items even you dont have 'currect supply'.

In Bangalore we are having one UPS,but with that we cannot operate Fridge, oven or washing machine. So if you put powder ful UPS you can use those machines with that. Hope this will help you.

Thanks Mrs Krishnamma. Your advice is well taken. I will be reviewing my plans to go for these equipments after my return from USA.
