Default Cost of education

Dear all,

Schools have reopened.I can see the lovely kids in new uniform, new bag , new waterbottles, new shoes. They look very nice.
BUt behind this, the scene looks bitter.

Yesterday i was talking to a young lady and she has 1 year kid..she said" i am very much worried.next year i have to put my daughter in playschool. They demand 20000Rs as fees for playschool.
This is for playschool. After playschool, i have to find a good school.i don't know how i am going to manage with single salary.".

I am not sure about other cities, But this is the fact in bangalore.

Now a days The cost of education , has increased beyond control.
when we include books, van, uniform, shoes.,it crosses 50k in bangalore.
Other than this, for annual fn, sportsday fn., they collect a good sum for costumes, hall arrangements etc.

In addition to this now a days, tuition also plays a vital role.

Before, students who were little poor at studies went for tuition. Now a days it has become a status symbol. The name tuition is now extra coaching.

Before joining the group in 11th std, they search for good coaching classes.
Now a days it has become a money minting business.

In addition to the studies, parents want their children to excel in extracurricular activities.

If it goes like this, i don't know, if a middle class parent can afford their kids education at all.

dear ils what do you think. Share your views on this.

Hi kamala,

This is the plight everywhere, especially in India. Many of them keep cribbing but at the same time want to put their children in those kind of schools for the sake of fame and name.

Most of the parents fail to c if the child is interested in an extra curricular activity. They would often compare their children with others and say "Look that boy is going, you also have to go, otherwise they would think that you are not talented".

Nowadays its been happening in the case of tuitions for subjects. The school (subject) teacher would be taking the tuitions and when a particular child be it studious / dumb doesn't take the tuition he /she would be deliberately failed.

In a few cases got to live with it, if not we would be sidelined.

hi kamala,
yes education costs are skyrocketing...when i was studying architecture, all my college expenses including hostel and food used to come to about 20,000 per YEAR...now i'll probably pay more than that for my baby's play school per MONTH....here in HK most of the companies pay for their employee's children's school education..otherwise no way anyone can manage...recently our financial planner drew up the probable cost of my daughter's future college education...it came upto a mind boggling 4 million HK dollars...i almost fainted hearing that...inflation is taking its toll everywhere so education is also becoming more expensive by the day...so the smartest thing to do is to start saving/investing for child's future education as soon as the baby is born or as soon as possible...after all we want to give the best of everything to our children right?

about the tuition thing, i dont think it is healthy...children lose their self reliance and start depending on some external help to excel in what they are doing...the craze for highest marks and top jobs is behind all this madness...okay we send the child to tuition when it is in school, what happens when the same child goes to college and a job later on...no tuitions there to do a good job then...instead we may encourage our children to use their spare time creatively in a fun way...learn some arts and crafts, creative writing, sports and games, music and dance etc...ofcourse without forcing the child, find out what the child is interested in other than studying school books...i dont mean to say we should keep them on a tight schedule from morning to night sending them to various classes...there is so much we as parents can do for them...sit and spend time with them, play fun games with them, be a wonderful friend to them...this would make them into happy and well rounded individuals...
this would also take off any negative thoughts and anxieties from those tender minds that lead to suicides, drugs etc..

Dear sharadha,

what you said about the extracurricular acti. is very much true.
One of neighbours put her son to mirudhangam classes at the age of 5.
It is very funny to see the boy hiding somewhere as soon as he hears the master's vehicle sound. They would pull and drag the boy to their house from the road. This is a daily scene. When i asked this to his mother, she said he is too small to understand what is good and bad, so there is no choice but to force.

I don't know what if he learns some other art which he likes the most.(sports).

Thanks for posting here.

yes vidya, When i look at the future cost, i am very much worried, if our savings are enough for their studies.
Tuition has become mandatory now a days. All the parents want their children to secure 100%. Now a days , we can see , even 5th std children going for tuitions.
.Present education focus much on the marks than the quality.Due to the less pay, and increase in no. of schools and colleges, we don't get qualified teachers. This is also one of the main reason for tuitions.

Of course, even some schools press the students to take tuitions from the school teachers, so that they get more money.

Definitely present education system needs a change.

Thanks for posting here.
