| Hi Ladies, I got this through a forward mail. I want to know your comments on this. I am shocked after seeing this. Because I dont accept this. How they can put a film star's story in CBSC book? where are we going? want to know about your comments on this. so I am pasting it here. I was in euphoric mood yesterday when I came to know this news. A friend of mine called me last noon and said that there is a lesson regarding Superstar in Grade VI English Book of CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). Ever since I heard this news, I couldn't resist myself and it was tough for me to pass time until I saw the book by last night. A remarkable achievement The moment I saw the book, I was awestruck. What a remarkable achievement of our thalaivar! If he manages to get a place in a school book that is read by kinds all over the country, then what else he has to achieve? A distinct honour I think no other actor in India had this honour so far. That is getting a place in school book while they were in the profession of acting. (Yes,a few actors managed to get the place bcos of their political status and that too in State Board Syllabus. But this particular lesson reg Superstar has come in a Central board book where it is common for the whole country!!) And what adds more to the pride is the heading under which the lesson was found. Unit 3: The dignity of Work - From Bus conductor to film star. Surely a remarkable achievement!! Isn't it? And surely this would apply tons and tons of coals on those faces who take dig at thalaivar whenever there's a little opportunity. But beyond their calculations, Superstar's name and fame skyrockets to unimaginable heights each time. Just wish to remind you a quote: "Fame usually comes to those who are thinking about something else." - Oliver Wendell I am happy to say that this blog is the first to bring you this good news. Will put efforts to make this news appear in other media sources including newspapers. And don't forget to go throught the 'Evaluation' page i present beside. It is not only for studs, it is also for us. Just try it. for your comments on this. |

| Dear krishnamma I feel it is wrong as there are many such superstrs who have become famous by they hard work, some from rickshawwalla, barber etc... to superstars, if one person will come in CBSC syllabus, slowly we will see many others too coming.............This is my point of view. I know one becomes superstar going through lot of hardship.

I too know it is very hard to come up like that. Publishing a book is not a problem. But is it necessary to keeping it in CBSE text book? |

I too feel like you only. I cant tolerate this. Then they will put another lesson of an actress who came from road. Then where is the end? If it is a film institute means ok? For CBSE it is not good. There is question in this lesson. "About his relation with Rajnikanth, he says he hasnot changed,at all .Whenever he comes to Bangalore he disguises himself and we go to the movies and visit all thoes restruants that we frequented during our driver conductor days. Why does Rajnikanth |

| Hi The whole issue here is that our country lacks role models! There was a time when Freedom fighters set aside their personal lives to fight for the country and its independance. So some generations had these figures in their text books. Now all those figures have faded from living memory and their contributions have lost its significance. Who do the kids hear about, read about and see as living people who have achieved something--film stars and sports stars. So they can easily identify with their achievements instead of people framed on the walls or statues covered with bird droppings and rubbish. Remember this is a generation that believes in 'WYSIWYG'--what you see is what you get. Anyway morals and values have changed their validity so much. Better than having corrupt and murderous politicians as role models don't you think? Padmini Natarajan |

| Hi Krishn(amma), I personally feel that it is correct partially. The children should take the essence of hard work and how he came thru the hardships to achieve his goal. He is a live example. "NALLADHU YAAR SONNALUM KETTUKKANUM". The school teachers should see to that the children takes the good qualities in him as a live example for hard work and determination along with being a good human being. |

| So long as the textbook lessons are not talking about his bad habits and his films, it is ok as the story of a man who rose from rags to riches and is still a good human being making it lesson for young children to know value of hard work, dedication and perseverence. Instead of putting sermons about some old historical character who the child cannot even visualise, keeping the example of flesh and blood ( and famous) man will help i think. Then the child will not treat it like only some story or fairy tale.

| History is about people's achievements, isn't? We will not have this section of literature if we don't want to discuss about them correct? We read about all sorts of characters in the past, write articles, essays about them.. Why would we want to learn about kovalan, kannaki? What is relevant in that? There is something isn't.. about the morals one has to follow correct? Why not talking about this cinestar be the same? He did come up in his life by his hard work and determination. Yes, he did take the wrong path at times, but due to his religious beliefs, he did correct himself. Is that not a living example? We talk about Gandhi, how we did this and that for the country.. he's the father of our nation.. he comes in all one word questions and essay types... and thats the end of his story now :( But anyone talk about his family, his personal life? Was he an example of how a guy should be in the personal front. unfortunately no. He neglected his family for this country. Now, is that an example that we can tell the next generation? Except for his wife name in the text, do we have anything as an achievement in the personal front? Obviously no. So, this is how it goes: We collect all good things thats happening and try to make sure future generations now about it. It can be a barber, rickshaw-wala, anyone. But if we start collecting that level of data, obviously, no one will every be an historian with such a huge load ;) So celebrities, world-wide known personalities are the ones who will be included. Their achievement is what will be recorded for future. Ambani, Narayanamurthy, TATA, Wipro CEO.. anyone who have achieved something and is a good example for future generations to be role models can be and should be included in their text books.. All we need to see is their hardwork and urge to come up in life. Let's not dwell into their personal life because like Gandhi's no one is perfect.. but they achieved something and thats what is important for us to see. They all are hardworking people, who proved that sky is the limit and the word impossible doesn't exist.

| Dear Krishnamma i havent personally read the lesson but i personally feel that if the lesson is more focoused on his initial days of his struggle, his will power, his ambition, and the hard work he has put in to survive through his bad days rather than his life after he became a star ( we can take the eg of Sudha Chandran), then it is fine. This lesson can be one of the small examples on fruits of hardship. But i also agree to aruna's say that this incoming of the stars in the syallabus should not continue as that may impact the childrens mind regarding a career in films which isnt a good idea.
