THey deserve it. Sorry this is

If they introduce the caste based reservation in private sector, I don't know the future for our children.I really feel pity for them.God only can help our children.
Dear krithika,
I still don't feel its justified.......because I have seen people who choose defense (army/navy/police)......mostly are not good students (exceptions are there in many IPS etc), so to earn livlihood they used to join army.....they will get many things in discounted price from grocery to cloths to accessories......there kids will get tuition fee cut in schools and colleges and will enjoy the status of their parents while a good students with poor financial background will struggle for food or might sleep hungry to fill exam fee.......do you still feel its worthy........
And ex-servicemen is not only mean when they die in job.......they may be retired from job...will take all the advantage of Govt......and still their kids will be exmpted from all liabilities and will have reservation in entrances.......
What abt those normal kids whose parents are dead.....do you still feel they have to struggle when some people enjoy reservation on the name of their father who were ex-servicemen.........
I feel Reservation is a must but it should be based on Financially poor students and also not in a blind-fold manner......that should be again on the basis of merit......we can cut the fee.....provide them money/food/clothings but they have to study and get the job on merit basis..........otherwise there will be no progress in India....
regards.

Meeta,
Why do you assume that the children of Defense servicemen will not be intelligent enough to study and earn good grades? You seem to be coming from a deep bias!!

The children in the armed forces will only get tuition discounts in certain schools.. like Kendriya Vidyalayas or Armed Forces schools (such as Air Force school, Army School, Navy school etc - here the fees is much higher than that in KVs.)
If they want to join prestigious schools like say Delhi Public School or Padma Sheshadri they will have to fork over all the tuition.
How do you think changing schools every 2 or 3 years will affect the grades and confidence levels of the children of the armed forces!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, the places were the servicemen are posted are mostly remote and there are usually no good teachers in schools in these places. Teachers are civilians and can not be forced to work in remote and dangerous outposts.
As for fees in colleges there is no discount for children of servicemen...

I am not sure what sort of advantages you refer to that ex-servicemen take of the Govt.
They get medical benefits but only from Military hospitals which might be miles from where they live. they get discounts for groceries and clothes but only from the CSD or equivalent. They can not saunter into shops in T Nagar or Karol Bagh and demand discounts!!!
Here there are just like other civilians....
And the quality of the food in ration ... less said the better.

I object to the tone of your post. Your post seems to imply that men and women only want to join the armed forces if they are not good students!
Did you know that the Armed Forces of India is one of the largest in man-power and has extremely competitive men and women? And did you know that this is the reason that there is no Drafting into Service in India. Joining the armed forces is voluntary!

I will be the devil's advocate and contradict myself - Maybe it is these incentives that make people join the armed forces... but is that not a major criteria for every one... every one will choose a job that gives better benefits among the ones offered/available so as to better their life-style that much more.

Dear gayathri,

Yes i agree,Middle class people suffer because of this reservation policy. They loose the engineering or medical opportunity just for 2 or 3 marks.

Even i am very much worried about my dd's future.

Let us hope for the best.

This is a very good topic.

I am an FC - not by choice I assure you and financially a middle class person. I currently live in the US of A and I am un-mindful of how caste impacts every day life of Indians in India... but it is always there.
Some times when our Indians friends meet there are discussions of caste (this is very rare and Indians abroad are like Ostriches to most Indian predicaments... we are too busy comparing jobs, houses, cars (this is america folks) and children's talents and trying to run down other Indians at the work place to please the American (gorey) bosses). But such discussions do happen and they evoke very emotional responses... I am mostly shocked!!!
The other day my husband was called a "fc" bastard by an Indian man in an Indian restaurant just because my husband was signing the guest book before him!!!

We plan to return to India (in 3- 4 years!!!) and I am terrified of the options that will be available for my son.

The political scenario in India has to change... the educated middle class needs to take more interest in Politics if any of the unacceptable situations in India will change.

In my opionion the Indian Govt.'s reservation system is a strong indication that the Govt of India is not Secular... even though we proclaim from the roof tops that we are Secular!!!!

The private companies in India are a boon to the FC folks as they recruit based on merit... but reservation will ruin it...
Brain drain might seem the only solution....

just my - Gayathri

Dear meeta,

Even i have the same opinion as gayathri. Please don't use such words('are not good students").So many people join the army with service motive. There are villages in tamilnadu where majority are army men.We should not hurt the feelings of those people who fight for us.

I started this thread with a genuine motive and not to hurt others.
