Thanks for the valuable information. Tomorrow is also my son's birthday - so I will be reciting many prayers. We have also arranged for some annadhanam to the workers of an aprtment complex nearby. There are two huge complexes coming up nearby and we (few friends of ours) have arranged to make food (for about 300 people) and take it over.

All this fuss and fanfare abt. A.thrithaya is simply foolish. Whoever heard of this ten years ago.? Just to promote sale of gold, diamond etc the jewellers are pushing this idea to the gen. public. Remember brothers had to buy yellow sarees for sisters, a few years back. One of the sales gimmics by textile shops. Last year we were told that the colour of the year is white and you shd. buy platinum. Fortunately people didn't fall for it as the glitter of gold was missing and the price didn't suit our pockets.
Of course it is good investig in gold because the price is going up forever; but when everyone buys on a particular day the investing price also goes up. Instead buy gold when the price goes down; this is sensible. Hope I am not hurting anyone's sentiments.

Akshaya means the one who never diminishes. Tritiya is the third day of the bright half of the lunar month of Vaisakha. Akshaya Tritiya is an auspicious and sacred day for inviting Goddess Lakshmi into our houses to obtain Her blessings.

The Golden Day Hindus believe in the theory of “mahurats” or auspicious timings in every step in life - be it to begin a new venture or making an important purchase. Akshaya Tritiya is one such momentous occasion, which is considered.

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as “Akha Teej”, is traditionally the birthday of Lord Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. People conduct special Pujas on this day, bathe in holy rivers, make a charity, offer barley in a sacred.

I would also like to add some points.How akshay tritiya is related to wealth
Basically we should take care of Dhan(Money) on Akshya Tritiya.For that we have to do pooja of Goddess Laxmi.
Akshay Tritiya is very auspicious day . As it was on 8 May.For improving my wealth I found the the following checklist very helpful-

• Get up early in the morning after at least 6-7 hours of undisturbed sleep.
• Have some breakfast preferably within 2 hours of getting up from bed. Ensure the first meal consists of non-refined (wholegrain) carbohydrates and a glass of milk (avoid coffee/tea).
• Walk for half an hour at least in easy pace.
• Pick up newspaper or open the net and browse for financial markets. Study what went in the world yesterday and pick the tips for best investment.
• Especially check your online statement of your bank account. Check if you have any dues pending and clear them.
• Check your bank balance and assess whether it is sufficient for the rest of the month.Solve money matters on Akshay Tritiya.
• Check out for yourself whether your bank and credit card people are not robbing you from behind on the penal interest on your loan and credit facilities.
• Talk to your broker on today’s shares and advise him nothing. At the same time eat some fruit.
• Go to office and sit late till the shops in the town are closed.
• Come home and silently slip into your master bed.
