Angry Change of Tamil new year's date !!!

Looks like our politicians have too much time and trying new ways to keep the people busy so that they can continue their earnings...

A recent bill has been submitted for passing, by TamilNadu's CM Karunandhi. The request was to change the tamil new year date from April 13/14 to the date when pongal falls. (Source : Click here)

Perhaps someone intelligent should suggest him that politics is !!

Whats your opinion, friends.

And also the tradition carried on for sooooooooooo long.. it cant be changed that easily as he wants...

its just like how Christians celebrate Christmas... Dec 25th is not when Christ was born.. all for convenience sake.. winter- holidays...

I guess the great CM is also trying to copy the same thing in our culture...

yup,
me too saw it in a news site sometime back....pissed me off to no end..have they run out of issues so much...what has politics got to do with celebrating our traditional festivals anyway...? the indian calendar is lunar, or based on the movements of the moon...our ancestors had immense scientific and mathematical proficiency and if they calculated and fixed a particular festival or function on a particular day, they had good reason to do so...
it is certainly not the job of politicians to suggest changes to the almanac...the country would be in a much better state if they concentrate on the things they should...
and certainly,Mr.Karunanidhi wouldnt think of suggesting that the English new year be celebrated on Christmas, or Easter be celebrated on New Year,or some such thing, would he...? the same applies....
no one can pass bills to change traditions....

rgds,
sowpar

Wellsaid Sowparnika..a very beautiful name you got.

The stupid Chief minister Karunanidhi has no guts to change islam's or Chrishtian's festivity dates. Being an athiest, he doesn't care how Hindus would feel about this suggestion of changing the Tamil New Year date. Now, the Govt has ordered the Hindu religious and Endowment Board not to conduct any special pooja on the day of Tamil New year bcos according to Karunanidhi,, its is not celeberated on April 13/14, but on Pongal day. I was shocked to read the article about it.

No political leader has the capacity to solve the pressing issues of India like water, electricity, neat roads, inflation etc., but invariably everyone is sitting in the assembly and discussing about changing names of the cities and dates of the festivities ( of Hindus only). It is ridiculous and if God exists, our dear Karunanidhi should not live long enough to celeberate the coming Pongal/new year 2009. Probably that would teach a lesson for our politicians. If not, then we all know that it is kaliyugam and only Rakshasas like Karunanidhi & his group will have an upper hand in destroying our beautiful India in every possible way.

Regards,
GPriya

Hi,
Tamil new year is celebrated when the sun moves to Mesha rasi (aries).
Why these politicians want to disturb that also! There is no logic or reason
in shifting the new year celebration to the month of Thai. In Pondicherry
also they changed the law wrongly following TN.

Hi,

It is a little difficult to accept it, we are used to celebrating Tamil New Year day on April 14, I wonder whether anybody openly raised objection to this.
