Hi Prabha:

Since you are from Bangalore - anything in sandalwood maybe a good idea. Steer away from gods (though some wouldn't mind, again it is best to be neutral). Letter openers in Bidri work or sandalwood. I think even those 'wooden carving/ inlay scenes you get in Cauvery are nice.

Embroidered shawls / stoles/ dupattas for ladies, maybe? Go for pastel colours to be on the safer side.

Hope this helps.
Sindhu

Prabha, regarding tea, some of them like Darjeeling / Assam tea. However, what they drink is different from what we get in India. But if there is something like 'Cafe coffee day' for tea, you might want to pick up their stuff. Maybe Gangotri on Residency road might have some teas or if you can find something on the lines of Auroville shop they will have tea stocked to European tastes.... my opinion.

Also, you could get a few gifts at Kairali on MG road , opposite HSBC.

Happy gift hunting!

We have always bought pashmina shawls and silk scarves for my husband's colleagues. They like those a lot. You can also think of nicely carved incense stick holders plus incense sticks as a gift set. I see a lot of incense sticks and perfumed candles in craze now. I usually also buy jute bags (the elegant types) for my friends but i don't know if they are appropriate for colleagues.

Leather items like wallets etc. are also appreciated as gifts... not sure if you get them cheap in Bangalore.
