Raji,
Oh.. don't remind the mdpm, a little relief now with the rains. i am sure the plants are thanking gods more than me.
i buy water even then i do give their share of water after a point the plants are like kids, and they do need the pamper and comforts.
i used to have roses before. now stopped, as they are not able to survive the extra heat from the roof, and also the water. now turned to gardening for the benefits.

Yesterday, one of my neighbour's kid, had rashes all over her face and the mom, asked me what it is, i too did not understand what it was, but then we listed out what she did, the past two days, and understood, that odomos repellant, lotion was the culprit, she was sensitive to it.
They tried the skin specialist, but he was not available, as it was pongal.
and guess what, this morning it has completely reduced. We just tried using some aloe vera gel direct from the plant. the daughter, a teenager was all praise for the plants i grow. .
Right now mint is growing in abundance, and even the hibsicus, orange, yellow are all flowering well. will post few more when i can find the time.

Shanthi,
How come I missed visiting your garden here ! So soothing and refreshing feel on just watching it from here
I miss gardening here My Appa was keen into all this and I loved joining him in his daily routine in our little garden when we were in Dindigul.
All the keerais were the highlight ...and I loved taking care of the ponnagannis.
The information about medicinal effects of each of the plants are indeed very useful.
To add to it...
One of my friends, said that Curry leaves (kariveppillai) was very useful for her to get her monthly periods regularly. She has had a history of irregular periods. She used to have a lemon-sized ball of the curry leaves paste, early in the morning on empty stomach for a week or ten days. And that regularlised her periods for over 6 months (sometimes upto a year ) and then again she took that dose. No side effects.
Just thought of sharing this.
Bye

Dear Sanvy, really am amazed of so much you have been growing in your terrace.!! You have kep all ur plants so healthy and fresh (with all the water storage problems that you have discussed).. A salute to u for it
Thanks for sharing all the useful info too here in the thread.!! Seeing all this, I am all with ideas to plant in my balcony (there is so much space there but haven't put it to good use, though we have a tulsi - which unfortunately dried out and an aloe vera plant ist still there, but not a lot of levaes have sprouted out from it! and ur aloe vera is just so much in abundace.!!)
Do u change the soil that you grow these plants on a regular basis or something? Or you just treat ur plants with the compost you were talking about? Please do guide me here with the planing tips..
Also, how can I have a plant of curry leaves? You did mention seeds, where can I get these?
Sorry for asking so many questions, but I figured out you have a lots of hands on experience in this!
Thanks in advance
Gayathri

Saras,
vangappa. missed you here. i can definitely understand your love for plants and your everygreen memories.
I too have. i used to have all the greens in small plots, and then different varieties of cactus roses and everything..those were the days..when home grown veggies did not get so much respect.though loved growing them.. .
curry leaves are know to reduce bp, diabetes, increase hair growth, and also regularize digestive system. regularizing the periods is a new info..good one.
Another one that helps in regularizing is pomogranate..remove the hard scaled skin. blend the fruit along with the tender skin and have every morning, excessive bleeding, disturbed cycles are all rectified.

I am trying to grow henna plant and betel plant for their medicinal purposes.
i have got some good seeds from a friend for henna..once the pot is ready i will try my hand at that.
Henna is a coolant, is a natural dye. if there are cracks in your palm/legs, applying henna paste everyday will stop the cracks..(no wonder our elders used to apply recurrently, even before the color fades away)
another is its analgesic effect..if you have severe pain, take good leaves (fresh, no spots), take 2-4 shallots, a tsp of jeera, grind it to a paste. take a small lump of the paste every 4 hours and the pain is reduced, it is effective in joints and back pain.
