Default Any suggestion for "kitchen garden"?

Hi all,

I live in a typical Mumbai apartment. The only place to place pots is on the grill outside the window. I was wondering apart from curry leaves, what else can I grow in my “kitchen garden”? Has anyone tried growing any vegetables / herbs in pots? Can they be grown from seeds? Where do you source cuttings from if required? What grows best in the hot and humid climate of Mumbai?

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks!

hi,
I was also living in an apartment in bangalore. That time i bought some pot flowers and kept in down in the car parking area.. where u have little space to grow grass and i used to water it everyday... U can try growing money plant or some flowers but not the roses.... If u have lot of places then it is worth growing roses... I planted beetel leaves and simply an yellow flower.... in the pot...

love..

Hi Anandchitra,

I found that most people here have gardens or at least sufficient place to plant trees. I have actually quiet unsuccessfully tried to grow chillies, coriander and mint in pots. Since I am new to gardening I was wondering if these grow in pots and if there were any suggestions.

I apologize if I'm repeating a post.

Hi Lakshmit,

Thank you for your suggestions. I already have a Money plant and also a Rose plant; both in pots. I specifically want to grow herbs / vegetables and was wondering which grow in pots. I will try the beetel leaf

Chilli and coriander and mint grow very well in pots. They need to be watered carefully and need good daylight. good luck

Hi Blissful

Check my post "my herb containers". I've had some success growing parsley, thyme, methi, shallot (springonions) and coriander(dhania). Some herbs grow continuously (parsley, springonions, thyme). Others like basil are annuals and will have to be replaced after a blooming cycle.

Good luck
Neesha

blissful,

if your balcony has enough sunlight, and if you can accomodate pots, you can try growing almost anything these days. check out the terrace gardens posted here.

you can have onions, tulasi, ...to hibiscus provided you take care of them, watering and things

happy gardening.
