Yes, you can put it directly in the soil. That was how, I have put it and the germination has started for all plants like carrot, tomato, cucumber & beans. Waiting for the next stage to see....

I put directly in soil ONLY after danger of last frost is over. Please check your zone and find out the estimated date for last frost. Frost will kill the yound seedlings:)

    hai chitra
i am sowing them in pots & keep them indoors for sometime.
As in the early stage we must not expose the germinating seeds to too much of sun, i planted just methi for now & later planning to plant brinjal, amaranth & tomato.
    regards

I kept my seed tray and then young seedlings near a sunny window. It helped them grow. once an inch high i kept them outdoor during day and then brought them indoors. Will post pictures soon:)

    hi
may be i have to keep them outside when they r 2-3 inches high.even at that time also,if it's not possible i guess it won't effect the plants as i can get adequate sunlight & hotness too thru the windows.
    thanks

    Re: hi pls advice

    Hi Lakshmi:

    Pudina and coriander :
For a start, with seeds you just need seed trays or egg carton (if you have) - to germinate. (I use vegetable (tray) packaging from supermarket!)

Later, you transplant the seedlings into individual pots when they grow to be 2-3 inches tall. You can start with small pots of 3 inches diameter. As they grow, you will have to change their pots (to one size bigger) when roots start peeping out from the bottom of the pots.

For veggies, intially it is the same as for the herbs above. Depending on the vegetable, the minimum size for pot required would be 10 inches diameter once the plant has grown big enough.

Hope this helps you get started. For information on specific vegetables, you can check out other posts under gardening.
