Hi Nandhu

Amaranh leaves are araikeerai which I find in the Korean market here.

I will be getting drumsticks on my tree until july. Will post photos soon.

To have one greens, got to find this and that here.. But sathyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa u have so many different types...

(1) ponnanganni red and white- English name please.. may be I will try to find it here
(2) drumstick - I love this plant.. Hope someone finds bonsai type for this then I can enjoy its leaves at least.
(2) All these pasalai, is that called spinach?
(3) Peech this kuppai(meni?) keerai let me know, english name. I have low hemoglobin my doc says.. and may be this might help..
(4) Never heard about this one - kachakatta leaf (also called lajjakattai)
(5) Mulai keerai and Thandu keerai, Is that the one with purple veins? I see one such in indian stores.. I buy and cook them, but dont remember the name though
ahaha nandu
you had me laughing to myself..
the english names i will post tomorrow
the pasalai is indian spinach
not the same as the spinach that is shown popeye eating
kuppai keerai is not kuppai meni...kuppai keerai has a tail like flower head on top and grows as weed everywhere...actually the seeds are not sold anywhere nor is the greens it is just available on roadsides and gardens where they dont pluck out weeds...we have it in abundance during rainy season
will try and get the pics too....not good at click and post...will try
for your haemoglobin count:
first see if you are constipated
you get over constipation and soon your HB count will pick up
try taking curry leaves plain. also amla. also pomegranate...

Hi all.

here are some photos of drumstick and manathakali plants. This year I have kept the manathakali plant smaller as I have a lot of seeds from previous years. It is time-consuming to pluck the manathakali, wash and dry.

On the base of the manathakali, are radish plants.

Hi Nandu

I too feel sometimes it is like a farm. I am originally from Mumbai, I was only used to plants in pots that were manageble. Now looks like I am a farm girl!
My mother always use to say that people living in villages were lucky because they could pluck the vegetables daily and cook it fresh. Now she is in awe of the litttle garden that we have.

I always love that Usha, minutes before you cook, get it fresh from the plant..My dreamhouse is not like big bungalow in the center of the city.. but a farm house surrounded by fields... have all different plants around....

Hmm.. I just envy you, sathya and people who can do this ... :) You are very lucky... Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!

Nand

A little bit of info from my side .. hope its right ..

mulai keerai/tahndu keerai.. is what is usually referred to as amarnath.

pasalai keerai.. though it looks like spinach.. isnt spinach.. the leaves are more sticky and after cooking its all "kozha kozha;.. ( i personally dont cook it

my haemo levels used to be abysmally low when i was in Muscat... but after moving to chennai and eating keerai everyday.. they are more than good now !!! try spinach and amarnath.. that should do the trick

cheers

Bhooma
