    Hi Jenz:

When I was in Bangalore couple of years ago, I had thought of having a terrace garden. But the project never took off since we moved to UK.

If you plan to have pots (huge ones - 1 - 1.5 ft wide) in your terrace, there is nothing more you would have to think of. I had been to a gardening class where this expert told us how we could grow all the vegetables we want, on our terraces provided basics like good sunshine and water were taken care.

However, if you plan to have soil on the terrace, you might want to waterproof the whole terrace. For this you might have to call in an expert. In Bangalore, I know of horticultural experts willing to help you out with such things. The advantage of this will be being able to have a lawn / having plants on the ground itself than in pots.

Having said this, I still grow all of my plants in pots! Waiting for the day, when I can plant in a big field:) Just joking!

All the very best with your plans and keep us posted.

    Hi Sindurao / Anandchitra,

Thanks for your inputs. Oh yes, I do have a balcony too.....!
Some people even keep potted plants on the staircase corners....if the stair case is wide enough.

Now I should do some serious thoughts. For me the first confusion lingers around the theme for the terrace garden - should it be flower garden, herb garden, veggie garden or a mix etc.

    Any suggestions there???

    Cheers
    Jenz

Very good question. really depends on what you want only. Or a small combination of flowers and herbs maybe?

    Hi AnandChitra,

haha...yes sure depends on what I want. I have been thinking on the same lines as your suggestion...some herbs, flowers......will update here when I have managed to come to a conclusion. :)

    Thanks for your suggestion.

    Cheers

    Hi Jenz:

If your terrace gets good sunlight all through out the day, then you can go for any theme you want. A mix is a good thing since you get to have an 'all in one' garden!
