manjal, as it is with a node visible from where a root can push out. it will take some time but you need patience.

sugar cane, the adi karumbu with the kannu/eye can be planted. i have seen sugarcane grown in a house on the way to my son's school. just try.

add all the coffee grounds and other manure. you can also add coconut husk that you get from the coconut into the manure..

for sugarcane, just one part of the stem with roots is ok. dont have much idea about itshakehead, but it requires more water :) heard this from my elders when they plant in their fields.

reg. manjal, the manjal part is alone enough. my MIL used to plant this, and in around a month's time, we could see the sapling coming out.

The stem shown in the pic is ok to plant. Its thick enough to plant. Place stem horizontally into furrow and cover with soil (Soil can also be bought. Black soil will give bettern returns.) Plants will take approximately 5- 6 months required to be ready for consumption . Alternate day pouring water is must...

Note: It wont grow if you put the stem Vertically, . one more thing, entire stem should be covered 1 -2 ft with soil.

    Thanks
