Dear Subha,
At this juncture, I can imagine, how much this thread must be meaning to you !
It is very natural that we think of our mothers more when we are approaching motherhood.
Ofcourse, financial constraint is there whenever we want to fulfill our desires but remember that you will be more in your mother's thoughts than ever !
All the best & take care.
Love,
Chithra.

Thank you soo much for posting....such a wonderful writup.

Very soon am going to have my Valaikappu & Seemandham here at Pittsburgh SV Temple. My only concern is that my mom is unable to come due to some financial problem, as we can afford ticket to only one person. So my MIL will be coming here to do these functions. Still, I miss my mom soo much in these funcions, bcoz this is their first grandchild. But its not the case for my MIL. Moreover, my father is in service, my mom cant leave him and come to US. I really miss her soo much these days !!!

And your post made me so happy.... I felt as if my mom is saying all these to me....

Again thank u soo much.....

Lovely pics and wonderful explanation, Mrs.C. Must be wonderful to go through such rites and rituals which bring a sense of love and bonding in the family.

Dear Lavanya,
Thanks. Going through pregnancy, you must be enjoying these a lot.
Perhaps the baby-sower equates to this???

Love,
Chithra.

Dear Chitra m'am,

I have a query. My in-laws have a custom similar to valaikappu in the 7th month of pregnancy. My SIL is pregnant and her 7th month is coming soon. My in-laws have this practice of making the "jadai" for the pregnant lady at home as part of the function. Would you know of somebody who will come and make the jadai at home? Thanks in advance. Sorry if I have posted in the wrong thread!

Regards,
Anitha

Thanks so much for the patience and the replies! The valaikappu went well and I'm almost used to all the bangles by now :D My only concern is that I was advised to remove the gold ones, and maybe the silver ones as well, because they're so thin and they're worried I would lose them and not notice, but I don't really understand why go through all the trouble of making them just to put them away so quickly. Should I be more reasonable and remove them, though?

Dear Anitha,
You can go to the nearest flower vendor in you locality & ask him. They will take an order & do it - it will then have to attached to the hair. I do not think anybody comes home & does that now !
Love,
Chithra.

Dear Marisa,
Nice to know that the function went off well.
If you love bangles, there is no reason why you should remove them. Except perhaps, a few working women now a days, we all wear them till labour starts.
You seem to like wearing them. So, I suggest you continue wearing them as long as you fel like it.
Take care.
Love,
Chithra.

Thanks a lot! I intend to keep the glass valayal until the birth, but do you mean the gold and silver kappu as well? Those are the ones I've been advised to remove.

Dear Marisa,
We definitely do not remove them(gold & silver kappu) till labour. Infact some remove only the glass bangles if they do not like noise ! Kappu means to protect !
Love,
Chithra.
