hi
we are recently planning to buy a house in US but wanted to conduct a small poojai i am totally new and dont know what to do?
we practically have no one here just few collegaues from work place but its very informal with them , secondly the new hse has no furniture at all and we have no plans to buy any new furniture until some days /months
if we invite people we need a place for them to be comfortable etc

so my qs is can i just do a small poojai at home myself ? what should i do ?i belv i have to boil milk other than that what should i do?????
later like after few months can i do a poojai with vadiyaar and inviting friends etc, is that ok ? and one more issue is when we invite vadiyaar we have to cook a full south indian meal na in morning before the vaidyaar comes .......... i was wondering how can i do that alone, i think i have to get up real early and cook all cause we have to be in the poojai na what receipes should i make ??

i am totally confused though i really want to have a poojai with vadiyaar ..
what are my options??????? pls suggest

thanks

Contact the local temple and the priest there should be able to guide you further.

Vaidica Vidhya Ganapathi Center - Pooja Items List

http://www.kaundinyasa.com/griha.htm

Maha Ganapati Temple of Arizona

Maha Ganapati Temple of Arizona
Grahapravesam

Hindu Temple of Atlanta

These are some links from Google search. Going through the list you will get a general idea.

The priest will advise you as to what prasadams you need to make.

Lot of temples have catering facilities which you can avail of for items other than the neivedyam.

Congratulations on your new home and hope this info helps you.

If you need any other info, please pm me.

Hi Hope,

Congrats on your decision of buying a house.

Now to answer ur qs:

1. Bring a little Pillayar (ganesh picture/statue) with you when enter the house for the very first time, after you got the key (after your registration formalities are over).

2. On an auspicious day, go to the house with your family deity pictures (kula deivam mainly) , flowers and the regular vilakku (for deepam) and such pooja items. Boil milk, put sugar in it and light the vilakku, pray sincerely to have peace and prosperity in your new house and do the neivedhiyam of milk and distribute it to your family and whoever is with you, and drink a little.

3. After you move in, when you are ready to do a little pooja, usually it is homams (ganapathi homam, navagraha homam etc) , make it an event with vaadhiyar, family and friends. For that occasion, you can always arrange catering, as you are in Chennai... Only for neivedhiyam, you need to make kozhukatti and payasam etc., which is fairly simple to make. Even your friends can help you. kozhakattai, payasam etc can be made in the early morning before the homam starts. Anyway, it is enough if you make very little quantity of these as it is only for God prashadam and you don't need to distribute to everyone.

4. One final note is that, whatever you do or don't do, as long as you are being a decent human without hurting or harming anyone and with the thought of ALMIGHTY if you enter the new house, everything will turn out pretty good for you. The rest like pooja, homam etc., are mere formalities, God doesn't expect/want...

Congrats once more
Geeth Priya.
