| Significance of karadaiya nonbu-Courtesy Hari om Prayer Center, Melbourne Dear Devotees, Re: KARADAYAR NOMBU Friday 14th March, 2008 from 8:00 am to 9:00 am According to our Hindu calendar, the transition period between the Sun completing his cycle from Kumba rasi, Masi madham and beginning his cycle to Meena rasi, Panguni madham, is the auspicious Karadayar Nombu viratham. Once upon a time in Deva loga, Indra's wife Indrani visited MountKailash when Lord Shiva and his wife Parvathi were together. She asked the divine couple: "O' Lord, please teach the people of the earth a method by which they can remain as husband and wife to live affectionately and be loyal to each other for life". For this, Parvathi Devi replied: "If women perform the auspicious Karadayar Nombu viratham, offer the adai as neivedhyam and tie the sacred yellow thread (manjal seradu), they will be blessed with prolonged well-being and long-lasting happiness in their husband-and-wife relationship". This viratham is documented in our history as "Savathri Sathiyavan". In various parts of India, Karadayar Nombu is also known as "Savithri nombu", "Gowri viratham", "Karvachauth" and as "Lavandai" in village areas. Therefore, by many different names, this auspicious viratham is celebrated widely throughout India. I sincerely pray that all women perform this sacred viratham and gain the blessings of the divine couples Lakshmi Narayanar, Parvathi Parameswarar and Saraswathi Bhrama. God bless you all.
