Default Question about Thidhi - remembering our ancestors

Hi,

I used to cook food that my late grandmas and my late MIL like and offer it to them on Mahalaya amavasai every year. Is this enough or should i do the same on the deceased date of every person separately? Please let me know this as i am really confused.

Thanks and Regards
SaiNirav

Default Re: Question about Thidhi - remembering our ancestors

Dear,

It depends upon what your ancestors have been following. In some families, they offer shraad during this lean period for all the ancestors together on one date.

In brahmin communities, it is offered according to the actual thithi, paksha, ayana etc.. exactly like we celebrate our birthday. Only nakshatra is not taken in to consideration.

So such general predictions cannot take you any where. Do ask the seniors in your family, how do they go about with the Shraad.

Now a days few families have given up the ritual totally!!

Dear IL,

It should be given on the thithi day within the fifteen days (ie. from Pournami to Ammavasai which is called
Malayapatsham). If you are agle to give on the thithi day you can give on Bharani Thithi. However you can
have a check with your family elders and conduct.
