Post I wish I was a single girl again...

When I was single I used to be afraid
No one would ever wed me and I'd die a sour old maid
Now I am married and (I'll send me down to weep?)
'Cause my husband chews tobacco and he snores in his sleep

Oh Lord, I wish I was a single girl again
Lord, I wish I was a single girl again

When I was single I had fellas by the score
Now that I am married, well they don't come 'round no more
Now I am married and my husband's such a prude
He made me sew buttons on his flannel undersuits

Oh Lord, I wish I was a single girl again
Lord, I wish I was a single girl again

When I was single, he always came to court
He used to bring me flowers and he always was a sport
Now I am married and well, what do you think
He bought me an apron and he showed me to the sink?

Oh Lord, I wish I was a single girl again
Lord, I wish I was a single girl again

When I was single, I was jealous as a shrew
Of women and their babies, 'cause I wished I had one too
Now I have a baby. She's as sweet as any rose
But aint it aggrivatin' when you have to wipe her nose

Oh Lord, I wish I was a single girl again
Lord, I wish I was a single girl again

Default A Touching Poem

Dear Induslady,
Somehow I had missed this post because it was on page 2 of 'Good To Read' Forum which I saw only today. The poem is very touching. Poetry is at is best when it hints about the dull pains and the soft sufferings of the mind. When you write a touching poem about a gruesome accident where somebody had died, it won't be that powerful. Even in this poem if you had described about a sadistic husband it would not have had the same impact. When the poem talks about snoring, and the husband giving an apron (when the wife is expecting a flower) they have a tremendous impact.
Keep writing, Induslady. Even this poem you can dwell further and add more and more stanzas.
Keep up the goodwork.
love,
varalotti,
sridhar

Smile

Hello Varalotti,

Thanks for your message. However, I am not the original writer of the poem . I got to listen to this song one day in the FM radio in my car when I was driving. This song moved me a lot for it is about the kind of dreams girls have about their marriage; It is so upsetting even with smaller things that happen later in the married life that are far off their dreams.

So I searched for the lyrics of the song on the web and posted it here thinking that many ladies like me would enjoy!

Dear Induslady,

You have captured what many married women secretly think.

Just enforces my belief in the old saying: Marriage is like a fort under siege. The ones inside want to get out & the ones outside want to get in..

Regards,

Corallux
