Story Poem - The Lost Slipper

Sridhar,

I did not visit this site for a couple of days and i miss out on this lovely poem of yours. Shows that i have to be in touch with this site everyday to be a part of the lovely feelings that everyone share.
Saw all the prompt responses for your poem, and felt that i had nothing more to add. All the praises were perfect and i fully agree with the fact that you can write a poem! That too with moral messages , WOW , that was too good. I also agree that youngsters will benefit from this simple poem with profound thoughts. So why don't you post it also in some teen sites! ( i am going to take care now that i don't lose any of my slippers...going to keep them together, never know when what will happen)
Will definetely send it to my daughter and am going to share with whoever comes by. Too good to be missed out. Keep up with the good work!

Thanks a lot Sudha for the nice words. Poetry had never been my forte. The incident which my friend narrated several years ago affected me so much that I started repeating it in every college I was asked to lecture. The students loved it. So one day I thought I would give it the format of a poem. Well, to be frank, genuine poetry-sites will not touch this even with a long pole. And good poets might not agree that this is a poem. But those have never been my target audience. This is for students to learn something in life and for us adults to be a little amused by the interesting incident. Thanks once again for your words of praise.

Along with admiration, I have always envied
your wonderful flair for short story; You are a born story-teller. But I used to console myself-"What if he is one-up in that field? i write poetry which he can't" but....

Dear Pankaja,
There's a saying in Tamil "vasishtar vayala brahmarishi pattam". Sage Viswamithra wanted to be a Brahmarishi. Unless Vashista accepts someone as Brahmarishi the title is not considered having any worth.
So is the case with me. At last I have won the Brahmarishi title from Vasishta (or should I say Vasishti) It's a high point in my writing career.
At this moment I seek your wishes and blessings. Bless me that I should write more and importantly, write better.

That was one of the earliest poems I wrote. I made this into an incident and that became part of my book, Nambikkai Tharum Thannambikkai.

A very crisp and refreshing poem, very relevant and applicable to all.
I like it a lot. We all must have across so many people who simply give up without a try saying that they do not have the luck to do such and such thing.
In fact, I am going to forward it to my children, who enjoy writing and reading a good piece.

Dear Usha,
thanks. This was based on the incident my schoolmate Sundaram told me more than 30 years ago. More than him I should have derived maximum advantage of the incident. Apart from using it as a guide for my life and decisions, I made this as a part of my motivation book by simply narrating the incident in prose. Then I made it into a poem and Womens Era published it although after a very heavy editing.
Feel free to use it any way you want.
