Proverbial Tamil Proverbs- part 8

அன்புடையீர்,
அனைவருக்கும் என் இனிய புத்தாண்டு வாழ்த்துக்கள்.
இந்த வாரம் "ஏ" யில் தொடங்கும் பழமொழிகளைப் பார்க்கலாம்.

1 - ஏன் என்று கேட்பாரும் இல்லை; எடுத்துக் கேட்பாரும் இல்லை
There is no support, whatsoever.

2 - ஏன் கருடா சுகமா ? இருக்கிற இடத்தில் இருந்தால் எல்லாரும் சுகந்தான்
general meaning - it is better to maintain one's own dignity

3 - ஏனடா இடறி விழுந்தாய் என்றால் இதுவும் ஒரு கெருடி வித்தை என்றானாம்
giving a lame excuse for a mistake

4 - ஏற்கனவே மாமியார் அலங்கோலம்; அதிலே கொஞ்சம் பேய்க்கோலம்
Already the MIL is difficult, now she has become more fierce !

5 - ஏறினால் குற்றம்; இறங்கினால் அபராதம்
Either way, you are found fault with.

6 - ஏரியோடு பகை செய்து ஸ்னானம் செய்யாதிருப்பதா?
What is the point in fighting with a river & not taking bath in it ?

7 - ஏழரை நாட்டு சனியனை இரவல் வாங்கின கதை
general meaning - buying a nuisance

8 - ஏழை வீட்டில் ஆனையைக் கட்டுவது போல
It is like asking a poor man to rear an elephant

9 - ஏழு மலை தாண்டலாம்; ஓர் ஆறு தாண்ட முடியாது
It is easy to cross 7 mountains, but not one river

10 - ஏர் உழுகிறவனுக்கு ஏகாதசி விரதமா ?
Anagriculturist cannot afford to fast

11 - ஏதும் அற்றவனுக்கு ஏன் இரண்டு பெண்டாட்டி ?
A good-for-nothing fellow, but has two wives !

12 - ஏப்பம் பரிபூரணம் சாப்பாடு பூஜ்யம் !
Though there is nothing to eat, he is burping heartily - putting on a vain show

13 - ஏரி பெருகில் எங்கும் பெருக்கு
If the canal gets plenty of water, there is a flood

14 - ஏர் உழுகிற பிள்ளை இளைத்துப் போனால் போகிறது;
பரிசம் போட்ட பெண்ணைப் பார்த்து வளர்
Who is bothered about the hardworking son ? The girl to be married has to be taken care of, well !

15 - ஏய்த்தால் மதனியை ஏய்ப்பேன்;
இல்லாவிட்டல் பரதேசம் போவேன்
If at all, I will marry my brother's wife, or I will leave this town.

16 - ஏர் உழுகிறவன் இளப்பமானால், எருது மைத்துனன் முறை கொண்டாடும்
If there is none to support the man who ploughs, even the ox will claim to be his relative !

17 - ஏர் பிடிக்கிறவனுக்கு இடது கையில் மச்சம்
வாழப் புகுந்தவளுக்கு வலது கையில் மச்சம்
Mole on the left for a man & on the right for woman bring luck.

18 - ஏழைக்கு ஏற்ற எள்ளுருண்டை;
பணக்காரனுக்கு ஏற்ற பருப்புருண்டை
each person gets what he deserves

19 - ஏழை என்ற பிராமணனையும் சாது என்கிற பசுவையும் நம்பாதே
Never trust a poor brahmin and a " mild" cow.

20 - ஏழைக் குடித்தனம்; ராஜ வைத்தியம்
Though poor, he goes for costly treatment.

Nice set of proverbs to greet us on the 1st day of the new year. Now , you keep posting so many, i hope you have enough to keep this thread going for a long time to come!

Please do not think that I worry if I have enough to keep this thread going for a long time.
I have decided to take it as it comes. I do not want to worry if I have enough to post for all tamil alphabets. At this stage of my life, I take things on a day today basis. I am also only too well aware, that if anything that I start is not completed by me in my lifetime, somebody else wil come, take over & do in a more efficient fashion. That is the case in both my forums as well. Sorry, if I sound sentimental. Just a little pondering on a personal level!

Another good set, i dont seem to have heard most of them. It made interesting reading!

Thanks for doing your duty.....and adding a proverb as a signing off is also good.....but ma'am, your services are needed very much on IL, what will we poor souls do if you dont give us food for our thoughts!
I tried to shoot off a couple of proverbs during my break.....it felt good. Have to memorise a few i guess, to make it a habit....! Well another new year resolution!

You are too kind in your words to me ! I hope, I deserve them fully.
When we interact in tamil, we happen to come out with proverbs, most unplanned ! That was how I was noting them down, over a ( long )period of time !

கொண்டவனை விட்டுக் கண்டவினடம் போனால்
கண்டவன் பெண்டாட்டிக்குக் கால் பிடிக்க வேண்டும் !

புது வருட துவக்கத்தின் அனைத்து பழமொழிகளும் நன்றாக இருக்கின்றது.

I like particularly 2&10, it is soo true.

ஏழை என்றால் எவர்க்கும் எளிது.
ஏழைபேச்சு அம்பலம் ஏறாது.
