Dear Chitra,
Another good set of UU proverbs....i liked 17 and 20...how true they are no?
How and when did all these proverbs got started, any idea?

I also started discussing about proverbs with germans....(unknowingly your thread has seeped into our systems,) and i was asking the germans about the use of proverbs in their language....which did kickstart some lovely discussions on the different languages of this world!
Great way to start Monday morning!

Default Good Collections, Chitra

Dear Chitra,

Lovely set of proverbs this time too.

Proverb 1 - highly sensible. Sometimes more problems are just created due to other's reaction to issues in our life.

Proverb 2 - enjoyable !

Proverb 4 - I feel this proverb is also apt for oothaari person's (head of the family generally), children seeing such parents get spoilt themselves and there is no one to discipline them !

ஊமை ஊரைக் கெடுக்கும் - this i have heard so many times, being reffered to people who are so silent.

Proverb 11 and 15 - couldn't help smiling after reading the proverb !
Looks to me that Proverb 15 is a tic for tat for proverb 11

Love,
Preethi

Default My dear Sudha !

Thanks for sending the first F B, Sudha !
I think, in english, our proverbs can be equated to idioms. This should be the case in every language.
Now we have switched over so much to english in our daily lives, that these are almost forgotten ! I just want to revive atleas few for our reading pleasure !
Love,
Chithra.

Default You said it very correct, Preethi !

11 & 15 are ஏட்டிக்குப் போட்டி !
Another one similar to 12, which my mother always says is,

மழை பெய்ய,
திருடன் வர,
தேள் கொட்ட,
விளக்கு அணைய,
குழந்தை அழ !

I like that a lot - troubles never come alone !!
Love,
Chithra.
