Proverbial Tamil Proverbs - Part 5

Dear All,
This week we shall go on to " உ".

1 - உடம்புக்குப் பால் குடிப்பதா ? ஊருக்குப் பால் குடிப்பதா?
You can never satisfy the world.

2 - உட்கார்ந்து அல்லவோ படுக்கவேண்டும்?
First things first.

3 - உட்கார்ந்தவன் காலில் மூதேவி; ஒடுபவன் காலில் சீதேவி-
Active man will prosper; lazy man will not .

4 - உண்டவன் பாய் தேடுவான்; உண்ணாதவன் இலை தேடுவான்
A fully-fed man will search for a bed, a hungry man will search for a plate.

5 - உப்பு இல்லாக் கீரை குப்பையில் இருந்தால் என்ன?
உபயோகம் இல்லாத அகமுடையான் பக்கத்தில் இருந்தால் என்ன ?
Food without salt and a useless husband serve no purpose.

6 - உபசார வார்த்தை காசு ஆகுமா?
உண்டால் ஒழியப் பசி தீருமா?
Niceties never get you money; hunger needs to be appeased only by food.

7 - உருண்டு உருண்டு புரண்டாலும் உடம்பில் ஒட்டுவது தான் ஒட்டும்
You get only what you deserve.

8 - உழக்கிலே கிழக்கு மேற்கு ஏது ?
There are no two directions in a very tiny place.

9 - உள்ளுர் சம்பந்தம் உள்ளங்கை சிரங்கு போல
If the "sambandis" live locally, it is a pain forever !

10 - உனக்கும் பெப்பெப்பே உங்க அப்பனுக்கும் பெப்பெப்பே
He can manage smartly not only you, but your father as well.

11 - உள்ள தெய்வங்களை எல்லாம் ஒருமிக்க வருந்தினாலும்
பிள்ளை கொடுக்கிற தெய்வம் புருஷன்
Even if you pray to all gods, only your husband can make you a mother.

12 - உடல் உள்ள வரையில் கடல் கொள்ளாக் கவலை
Worries never end so long as you are alive.

13 - உண்டால் தீருமா பசி ? கண்டால் தீருமா ?
Hunger will be appeased only by eating food, not watching it !

14 -உயிரோடு இருக்கும்போது ஒரு கரண்டி நெய்க்கு வழியில்லை
ஓமத்துக்கு ஒன்பது கரண்டி நெய் விட்டது போல
There is nobody to feed him when alive; but when he is dead there is a big feast for the rituals.

15 - உண்ணவும் தின்னவும் என்னை அழை:
ஊர்க்கணக்கு பார்க்க என் தம்பியை அழை
I am ready for food, but if you want work to be done, call my younger brother.

16 - உதட்டிலே புண்; மாடு கறக்க முடியவில்லை
Giving lame excuses.

17 - உதடு தேன் சொரிய, உள்ளெ நெஞ்சு எரிய
Honey in the lips, ill feelings in the heart

18 - உப்பு உந்தியா செட்டியாரே என்றால் பப்பு உந்தி என்கிறார்
You ask the shopkeeper for a thing - he says something else is there.

19 - உண்ட வயிற்றுக்கு சோறும், மொட்டைத் தலைக்கு எண்ணெயும் போல
Fully fed man needs no food; bald head needs no oil.

20 - உண்பது நாழி; உடுப்பது நான்கு முழம்; எண்பது கோடி நினைந்து எண்ணும் மனம்
We need less food and clothings; but our thoughts are numerous.

Thank you so much for considering my request...Was so upset that i could'nt find the pazhamozhis this week..Have got conjuctivitis in both eyes and inspite of the repeated warning from my hubby , looged in to read ur pazhamozhis..

Oh, My God, how many proverbs are there. I live in Srirangam, Trichirapalli and my grandma used to say a lot of these proverbs.

Chitra Madam, I enjoyed them all.

And I also enjoyed your exchange of views.

Dear Chitra,

This was a good set of proverbs....liked most of them.
I liked 17th one......have seen many like that , with sweet honey words on lips but ill feelings inside!
Also is the 5th one similar to, UPPU ILLA PANDAM KUPPAIILAI!?
