| Dear Vandhana, Thanks for posting this. Mathematics is one of my favourite subjects too. The beauty of your post is that, this was discovered long long time ago by our Indian mathematicians and I came upon so many mathematics tricks like this in a book called "Vedic Mathematics". The tips and tricks given in that are really good esp. for student. Thanks for starting this thread, I look forward to contributing more from that book. Regards Vidya |

| A trick from vedic maths: To find the square of numbers: This is obtained by multiplying the no: by the same no: 25 * 25 = 625 Now, the squaes of 2 digit no:s with 1 or 9 as unit digit can be calculated very easily, By using addition or subtraction. Example 1: using addition: The rule is, if unit value is one more than the multiple of ten in the given no:, use addition. 61 *61 = (60+1) * (60+1) First square the ten digits. 60 * 60 = 3600 60 +61 =121 Now add both 3600 +121 = 3721 That is the square of 61 ! Example 2: using subtraction: If unit value is one less than the multiples of ten in the given number, then subtract. 89 * 89 = (90-1) * (90-1) 90 * 90 =8100 90 + 89 = 179 Now subtract 8100 – 179 =7921 That is the square off 89 ! Love, Chithra. |
