Default Crumbling Relationships

Which relationship in this world is considered superior?
Don’t you think that this a very difficult question to answer. Yes, it is. Because one has to realize that no relationship in this world endures for long. I could hear a lot of dissenting voices terming this statement as the most cynical and negative one.

I agree that cynicism is very much there in that statement. But, truths are always stranger than fiction. Let us face the facts.

Why there are so many old age homes coming up in India in recent years?
Why friends kill each other on trivial fights?
Why there are more numbers of divorces filed by couples of all age groups?
Why we happened to read more about suicides nowadays?
Why children are abandoned and abortion became a common act?

A group of old timers will immediately argue that this is a mark of degeneration. But is that the reason? Earlier days, there were no old age homes, no fights among friends, no divorces, no suicides and no abortions?

Well, they were all there. Probably, the number would have been less. The employment potential and the financial dependence had crippled many people at that time. The old parents had to live with their wards not because of love but because of dependence. The quarrels between friends were less because the competitions were less. Divorces were dreaded because of social ostracism. Suicides were unheard because the ambitions were insignificant. The children were not abandoned because there was no race for living, education or marriage. Precisely, the population was less and the publicity was still less.

Today every act of us is viewed by millions of media and immediately publicized. Every one of us keeps the world information at our finger tips. So naturally the magnification occurs. If these relationships have been so strong and sanctimonious why there was the legendary Kurukshetra war in ‘Dwapara Yuga’? Mahabharata has answers for all these and it also shows the grey shades of all human characters and crumbling relationships.

Anything is sacred as long as we respect. It is in the mind and attitude. There are no angels and no demons. We are humans and we have both in us.

Dear Sunkan Ma'am,

Very thought-provoking post. It is so true that human beings haven't changed in all these centuries, only the relative importance of issues has changed.

After all, wasn't it the Buddha who identified the root cause of suffering - i.e. desire? His words hold true till this day.

Thanks for sharing this,

Regards,

Sowmya
