Default Significance of 108--Part 1

Dear friends,
I found this information in mailerindia.com. It is very interesting!

1. Indian Rosary--108 beads
2. Set of mantra counting--108
3. Sanskrit alphabet--54--(each has masculine and feminine aspects, Shiva and Shakthi) 54X2=108
4.Sri Yantra-- (Marmas where 3 lines intersect and there are 54 such intersections. Each section has masucline and feminine--54x2=108. There are 108 points define Sri Yantra and human body.
5.Marmas--energy intersections called chakras. 108 marmas in the subtle body.
6.9 and 12--Spiritual significance in many traditions: 9x12=108, 1+8=9
7. Heart chakra--there are said to be 108 energy lines converging to form the heart chakra. One of them is Shushumna leads to the chakra and is said to be the path to Self-Realisation.
8. Gopis of Lord Krishna--108
9. 1,0 and 8= 1--God or Higher Truth
0--Emptiness or completeness
8--infinity or eternity
10. Islam--- this number 108 is used in Islam to refer to God
11. Sikh---The Sikh tradition has a mala of 108 beads tied in a string of wool, rather than beads.
12. Jain---In the Jain religion, 108 are the combined virtues of 5 categories for holy ones, including 12,8,36,25 and 27( when added gives 10
13.Chinese--Chinese Buddhists and Taoists use a 108 bead mala, which is called Su-chu and has 3 dividing beads so the mala is divided into 3 equal parts of 36 each.
14. Stages of the soul--Said that Atman, the human soul goes through 108 stages on the journey.
15. Meru_--this is a larger bead, not part of the 108. It is not tied in the sequence of other beads. It is the guiding bead, the one that makes the beginning and the end of the mala.
16. 108 Upanishads--as per the list contained in Mukthikopanishad. Arranged them into 4 categories according to the Veda to which each of them belong.

SAMA VEDA--(16)
ATHARVANA VEDA--(32)
