| | Finest Posts- Feb 08 winner Dear friends, Being associated with the Finest Posts contest is a great blessing. For one, we get a new reading list every new day. And what a list! Picked from a vast pool of literature expressing sensitive and significant thoughts. Chosen by a discerning group of readers, who nominate simply for the altruistic pleasure of sharing their joy around. And all we do is read them and pick a winner. The last one is agony and ecstasy. Pinpoinitng on one winner from many winners is an unenviable task. The last days of the month are spent in re-reading and re hashing our decision till the moment the winner is announced. And then it is ecstasy for us. The highs and joys of having completed a task well is a real turn on. So, it is with much happiness and satisfaction that we announce the winner of the Finest Posts contest for February 2008: Saying GoodBye by Jaynat Congrats Jaynat! You are a relatively new member in IL, but with this post , you have become a long time favourite with all of us. You are more than a good writer. This essay tells us that you are a loving mother and a sensitive human being. We are blessed to have you with us. 'Parting is such sweet sorrow'. Goodbyes, farewells, partings, separations- as normal human beings we are familiar with the emotions associated with this and the vast genre of literature generated by bards and writers. And somehow, when we talk of parting generally, we associate the passionate parting of lovers, the grief of parting in death, the ennui of parting among couples for job or compatibility. But what many often forget is that parting affects children also. Even at that tender age of 6 or 7, children develop strong friendships and emotional bonds with their class mates, with their teachers, with the benches and desks in their class, with the view that comforts them when they look out for a minute. Jaynat has brought out this facet of parting very effectively. She talks about her little daughter who is being relocated to Chennai from Istanbul for very sound academic reasons. But the heart of the child, while it compiles voluntarily with the decision of the parents, also longs for the friends and teachers she has gained in Istanbul. And it is not just this child. Her friends of different race and culture, her teacher who seems to be a unique human- all of them suffer from the same pangs of parting. And Jaynat sums up her essay with her own feelings on being responsible for this parting. As she watches the 'single tear' trickling down her dear daughter's cheek, Jaynat includes all of us in Saying GoodBye to a world that probably would never again be recreated for her daughter. Congrats,Jaynat! And continue posting! regards Vidya24 and Kamla Note: Click here to take a look at the special gift sent to Jaynat for her Finest Post in Feb 08

Dear friends,
Let us begin by congratulating Jaynat on her well deserved win for the Finest Post Feb 2008- Saying GoodBye!
Was it difficult to pick the winner this month? Yes of course, we had to do so from a pool of splendid nominations where each post was a winner. We will talk more about them soon. Some factors made it very easy for us to decide on Saying GoodBye as the FP Feb.For one it was a post that appealed to the heart. It was first nominated by Vandhana who has a keen eye for the finest posts. Seconded by none other than the IL Guru-Cheeniyasir. Thirded by our pragmatic and prolific blogger Kamalji and cherried off by the all time IL favourite,Varalotti. We would like to thank all four of them for bringing this nomination to notice. And we have good reason for talking about the ones nominating. More later.
Feb 08 saw many great nominations (I am running out of modifiers here). We started with Devika Menon's epistle on not taking our parents for granted, to tell them our love when we still can.Vijubala spoke of a normal arranged marriage that turned into a sizzling love marriage and made us all go into a few pink, romantic Valentine moments. There was this wistful post by MSLakshmi, a rare MiL who wished for more love and interaction from her DiL.And we can never stop raving about that meaningful post,Ironies of Life, by Kamlaji which tells us yet again of how parents struggle to make their children successful.
Twinsmom had two nominations- both on human affections and non affections. And there was Malspie with her lament on the decline of Mumbai. We had more posts on family and relations. Soaring Spirit with her sound replies on a moody marital relationship, Ansh12 (another new blessing in IL) asking us to Smile with her and thereby generating a whole new sub-forum on Life after Separation. And finally we had the roof and crown, Saying Goodbye by Jaynat!
Now you know why we go all Michaelangelo talking of agony and ecstasy!
regards
Kamla & Vidya24

Congrats on a well deserved win.
Many of us take child's feling for granted, thinking that they forget very soon. But, your write-up brought about the fact that even if they forget and adjust to new environment easily, they do feel sad on leaving their friends.
Love to your daughter and congrats again
Ansh

Dear Jaynath,
Congratulations. And you know I will have to congratulate myself, for did I not spot the winner, though I was the fourth in the line,
It's a beautiful piece of writing, something that will haunt me for days.
Enjoy the limelight, Jay. You richly deserve this. And please do remember this is your starting point in IL and not your highest point. For I do believe you are going to attain much greater heights.
best of luck.
Show this thread to your daughter. She will be really happy and proud.
love,
