The Mahalaxmi Ambabai Temple in Kolhapur is known for its grand Navratri celebrations and also another festival called the Kiranotsav.

Kiranotsav means the Festival of Sunrays. The architecture of the temple is planned in such a way; the rays of the Sun appear exactly upon the idol of Shri.Mahalaxmi (Ambabai).
Sun rays fall on the feet of the deity on 31st January & 9th November, on the chest of the deity on 1st February & 10th November and on the entire body on 2nd February & 11th November.
The temple displays a unique phenomenon, with sunlight falling on the face of the idol on 21st March and 21st September of every year. The temple is thronged by devotees during Navratri and Kiranotsav festivals.

Sharing with all our ILfriends this miracle moment of the glory of Mahalaxmi.

Friends, please view the pics in order of 1 to 5.

Very true Saras. As it is gaining popularity, it is getting very crowded. There is strict security all around. The atmosphere in the surrounding area of the temple is just so divine. No traffic is allowed for upto few hundred meters from all the fours entrances. This entire area has been cemented very well.
Everyone in Kolhapur has absolute faith in Ambabai. Many wishes are fulfilled with this darshan and yes, its hard to take our eyes off this beautiful shakti. Please check out this site www.ambabai.com
